Upgrades at DVC Resorts

I've read a lot about upgrades at various Disney resorts, but haven't seen anything about DVC resorts. Has anyone (non-DVC members) ever received an upgrade at check-in at a DVC resort? If so, what was it?

Most upgrades on rooms usually involve "views". for example standard views upgraded to water views. Most DVC rooms are not catergorized that way. They are group according to the # of bedrooms. I don't think they upgrade often from a studio to a 1 bedroom as a rule, or a 1 bedroom to a 2 bedroom. I think only in extreme cases. I could be wrong though.

Just wanted to let you know they do give random complimentary upgrades from a value resort to a DVC resort as part of YOMD. My SIL and her family had a reservation for our first night at WDW in April '07 at POP. She received a free upgrade to a studio at Saratoga Springs for that night. She and DW were able to get DVC to upgrade it further from a studio to a 1 BR villa. It had a great view of Downtown Disney from across the lake. She wanted to stay at Saratoga for the rest of the trip but neither she or we could come up with the extra money to do so. :surfweb:

They may have made it sound as if it was party of the YOMD but... Generally when you are moved from the hotel you are booked at to another hotel it is because your original hotel is oversold. Especially if they made you come back to POP the next day. When the hotels are oversold they will hold rooms at another resort of equal or higher value than the one you are booked at. They will move you for the one night and bring you back the next day. They don't generally move you for your entire stay in this situation, unless the hotel is sold out for multiple days. They may present it to you as an upgrade to make it sound better, but it is to even out occupancy.

As for the original question... If you are not a member and you are staying at a DVC property having booked it through Central Reservations or a Travel Agent you will be the ones to get the upgrade if it becomes necessary based on the counts. As stated the non DVC resorts upgrade a lot because the rooms are the same, it is just the view that changes. In general the DVC properties do not do upgrades. If by chance they are oversold in a paticular room category though they will upgrade the paying guests...not the members. It is in the member contract that this type of upgrade is not possible. They will even out the oversell using the revenue bookings. So it is possible, but it does not happen often in 5 years working front desk for 3 different DVC properties, I can say this only happened about 3 or 4 times and it was during a very busy time across property!
