Upgrade to your Resort or Room

I've seen a few posts where someone has been offered an upgraded resort. How and when does Disney decided to offer an upgrade? Is there anything you can do which would increase your odds of being offered an upgrade?

Upgraded resort offers are done typically because of overbooking or maintenance issues (ie rehabs taking longer than expected). Upgraded views or rooms within a resort seem to be hit or miss as well. It could be done to open up some lower priced rooms, or as a marketing incentive. Some people think that if you don't put too many requests on your reservation, that helps your chances, but I think it's all a matter of luck.

I don't think there's any way to increase your odds for receiving an upgrade.

We have been upgraded about six times in all the many times we've stayed at WDW. Mostly it's an upgraded view, but once we were upgraded from standard view to concierge at YC. I believe that was because we had noted that we were there for our 15th wedding anniversary.
