upgrade to cat 1 for spirit of aloha?

we had a last minute thought (45 days before we are going wdw http://www.wdwinfo.com/images/smilies/rotfl2.gif).

We would like to go to the spirit of aloha show but of course the only availability is for category 1 and we have the dining plan.

I was wondering if I could use the dining plan credits and then pay cash for the difference between what a category 2/3 would have cost and the cat 1 tickets. This way we could still go, otherwise we are stuck waiting for a cat 2/3 to open up

Nope. No way to do this. Disney figured out that they can fill up the category 1 tables with guests paying cash rather than the difference in cost to upgrade. There's no benefit to Disney. The same is true of HDDR.

Keep checking closer to the date. Disney may bump some of the guests to Cat. 1, to fill in empty tables.
