Upgrade to Canon 70D with 18-135 IS?

Thanks for the info. I was looking for an ISO upgrade with the 70D but based on what a few people on here have already told me, and yourself...I think I'll hold off on the upgrade and consider a lens with larger aperture instead.

I like the idea of the 6D, the only issue I have with a full frame is that I'd be starting from scratch again in regards to lenses. I don't think any of my current lenses will work with it.

I'm heading to B&H this weekend to play and explore all my options.

Yeah, looking at your older post it looks like the 50mm is the only one that will mount. The Rokinon fisheye will mount but if you've got the version with the built in hood it shows in the frame (I have it and its not too bad). Some people file that off, some sell it and get the FF friendly version of the lens. And really, if you go for the 6D you're probably going to want to get your hands on some L series glass fast. The images are so clean and at 20MP every little flaw in lower end glass starts to show up.

Got my 70D middle of last week and so far I have been fairly impressed with it. Lots of logical differences from my T2i with controls so still learning.

Did some video tests with following objects and it did amazingly well. While this may not be good enough of a camera for some, it seems to fit my bill perfectly.

I am not a professional by any means, but do like to dabble in stock photos. I shoot for my enjoyment and showing off my shots to friends, family and anyone who may be interested in them. I cannot wait to give it a good workout over the Thanksgiving weekend at WDW.

I am interest in seeing how a few if the featured will do with shooting fireworks. I am thinking the handheld night with three fast pics blended could make for an interesting result.

Looking forward just playing around with settings and putting the camera through its paces.

If I can come up with a dozen or so excellent shots on the first time out I will be happy.

Popular Photography gives a mixed review of the 70D in this month's edition. They love the new AF system, but like photo chick states, the actual performance increase over the 60D wasn't much in their eyes.

If you do decide on the 6D, wait and monitor the B and H site. About once a week, they will offer the 6D and their little promo package (tripod, SD card, case, and extra battery) for $1649 instead of the $1899 on the site right now. But, the deal frequently lasts only hours. Still, it is worth monitoring if that is what you decide on.

Interesting review of the 70D. I'm sure the new AF system is very nice and one could greatly benefit from it while shooting video.
In regards to the 6D, above my budget at the moment but I'll check it out at times on B&H.

Alright, I had the chance to get comfortable with my camera before and during my recent Thanksgiving weekend WDW trip.

I have to say I am extremely impressed with the 70D's performance. As I am still learning the camera I tried to put it through the paces as much as possible. Being a short trip I didnt want to bog the family down too much for me to really take shots like I like to I didn't carry around my tripod for the night/firework shots and other longer exposures I like to shoot.

The 70D autofocus is amazing - I am very impressed with the speed. I used three different lenses on the trip and all we equally faster than on my old T2i. The kit lens 18-135 is perfect for video shooting as it is SILENT. I heard no sound during shooting or playback.

While shooting on BTMRR, I could not believe how sharp the pics were while moving at full speed during the ride.

The main limitation of the camera was the operator. I was trying a lot of new settings and things I have been learning by reading tutorials, watching instructional videos, etc - so I am sure it could have been even better. This was my first time rally trying aperture setting for the majority of my shots, so I know this threw me for a few loops.

Do I think this is the right camera for me? Most definitely. I am not a Professional photographer, but I like to experiment with my shots. I love the video capability and the quality of the video.

My only real issue is at very high ISO, the grain was little more tan expected. but, then again I am sure with more experience and tweaking my settings this will improve as well.

Jiminy, I was there right after you! But my trip was so short, I did not bring the new 70D (pathetic of me, I know). We covered 4 parks in our one day at WDW; had to suffice with my - gasp - camera phone!

Would love to see your BTMRR shots! Please post!

P.S. Sickened to see how much the 70D came down since I bought the B&H bundle, but it still worked out well for me.
- got the $100 of extras (memory, camera case and extra battery) - stuff I would've gotten/used anyway

- got the $300 rebate

- sold the bundled printer/paper on ebay, netted $275 for myself

- sold my 40D, lens, and related stuff for an amazing deal for a lucky Navy guy's kid (i.e., it was a great deal for them; but at least I got some cash for a camera/lens I just never loved)

Everybody's happy! Now...bring on Baseball Season 2014!!!

Looking at your flickr page makes me want a 6d even more then I do already!

I love mine. It's the best body in it's class right now for low light. Absolutely amazing. Although the auto focus system leaves a bit to be desired, it is adequate.
