Assuming you are eligible for a DVC AP since you are posting in the DVC forum...

A 10-day MYW PH is still cheaper than a DVC AP (by $94, not including tax). But since you can't get more than a 10-day MYW, to get more park days you have to buy second ticket, which automatically starts you over with the 1-day ticket at $79, and add the $52 for PH...and you are over the cost of the DVC AP ($389).

Even if you were not eligible for the DVC AP, the two 8-day PH cost you $578...where the regular AP price is $489.

And not to mention all the other perks you get with an AP (free parking even if staying off site, shopping and dining discounts, etc.)

If you are making two 8 day trips within a year as you say, it TOTALLY makes sense to get the AP.

However, if you already have the two 8-day tickets IN HAND, you cannot turn both of those in to upgrade to an AP. You can only upgrade one ticket. At best you could pocket the second one for a future trip. But if you can cancel one of them (or get a refund, depending where you got them from), you should be all set.

Just a note of caution . . . We purchased park hoppers through UCT (loved their service) in November. We used those tickets on our December trip and then went to Guest Relations to get the DVC AP. The upgrade was not a problem or hassle at all, but we did not get "credit" for the ticket price through Disney. The computer system "knew" how much we paid for our ticket and did not give us the difference. Now, it wasn't a big deal as we paid the exact amount that a DVC AP would have cost anyway, but we didn't "save" the difference on our tickets. We even went back to a second GR CM to see if they could find out what happened, and they verified that the computer knew we only paid $X for our PH, so we had to pay the exact difference for our AP.

We weren't really prepared for that possibility, but luckily it wasn't that much money in the difference. Still, I want everyone to be aware that as of December, the computer knew how much we paid even though we had already entered the park. Maybe we were unlucky. We are still happy to be AP holders!! :goodvibes

That just really sucks.

Cheshire_Figment's "sticky" post on the Theme Parks forum runs it down. He works in ticketing and checks his info with the higher-ups to make sure he's not giving away secrets or saying the wrong thing. He states "Please note that this information is public information which has been taken, and possibly paraphrased, from WDW web sites and from official training of WDW Cast Members who work with ATS."

This is the page that lays out how to upgrade to an AP, and their info clearly states that you should have been able to keep the discount.

Sounds like some rogue CMs were manning the booths that day, and just didn't want to make that intermediate ticket.

If WDW does change (to match how DLR does things, where you do NOT keep the discount when upgrading) it's going to really harm the discount ticket places. There are very few discount ticket places for Disneyland, and I think it's b/c so many people might be upgrading. I certainly hope they don't make a big change! (then again, disneyland.com has prepurchase special prices on the site, which disneyworld.com does not...)

I do remember people having problems upgrading back when those AP discount "friends and family" type things were being used, but that wasn't just a normal discount ticket.

Just wondering what a "TIW" upgrade is?:confused3

TIW isn't an "upgrade" per se, it is a dining discount card that can only be purchased by FL residents ($100) and AP holders ($75).

It offers a flat 20% discount on most table service dining and a small number of counter service locations and lounges, including alcohol purchases. The card is good for a year (and some...depending when you get it during the month, it can be good for nearly 13 months).

If you spend more than $375 a year on qualified dining, you can cover the AP cost of the card.

Wow !! Do I purchase this when we purchase AP cards a t GR? Thanks for the info BTW:thumbsup2

I do not mean to sound cheap:confused3 but with the size of our family , we need every discount we can get. I now know what the TIW card is, I am wonder however if you have this card and lets say we go to a TS meal we give the TWI card to them they take off 20% and then we give them are DVC card (saying this is on the DVC discount TS places) will they give us on top of the TIW card 20% the DVC 10%/20% discount also? Or would it be one or the other? Can I double down would be the question or is that to much to hope for?:wizard:

Nope, no stacking discounts. You'd use whichever one gets you the best, which is usually the TIW card unless it isn't taken at the location but the AP or DVC is.

With all the discounts, when a CM asks if I have a discount, I usually answer "Yes - which one is the biggest?" :)

Oh well... can not hurt to dream:cloud9: I will be purchasing the TIW. You only have to purchase one for your group correct?

Correct...it is good for a bill for up to 10 guests, as long as the bearer is present. You can get one additional card, but that's another $50...

Can you use it at F&W kiosk?I guess best question is, is there a min purchase?

Is there a site where I can see all the participating places and what is the full name for this TIW? I am getting very excited over this, less money for food/drink more money for shopping:banana:

Thank you sooooo much..planning and saving are the only things keeping me sane until end of June.:dance3:
