Hya am staying in the Newport Bay in less then 2 weeks time. This time Ive just booked the basic rooms. I was in admiral room last time and just wondering if it is worth the extra expense? Also any ideas how much it costs to upgrade. We would be staying 5 nights.

Thanks!

Last time we were there I got upgraded to the admirals floor free.

IMO I wouldn't have paid for this. Lake view room. Yes 100% but admirals floor apart from the higher view I didn't think was worth it.

Agree.

We were upgraded on our last trip before Easter and unless I'd been on here and knew that such a floor existed, I would never have noticed!

We got nothing extra apart from a nice view, a short walk to the lifts and a coffee machine - for which the coffee cost a fortune!

So how did you all manage to get upgraded free? I dont care what the view out the window is:)

We actually purchased an Admirals Floor room, and if you don't care about the view, then it isn't worth it. We really enjoyed the view, but that's the only benefit you get, besides a shorter check-in line.

This is interesting to read because I always got the impression that it was worth paying the extra. Don't you get breakfast in a different room too or am I mistaken about that. :confused3

I thought that too - never stayed myself, but have read lots about it and there is a common theme that as the hotel it so big it can be a 15 minute trek to and from your room every day. I believe many people choose the Admirals floor to ensure a more central room. I think you also get free towels for the pool (you pay otherwise).

Have you looked on the sticky thread, there may be mention of it there.

We paid extra to stay on the Admirals floor and to be honest it wasn't really worth it. Okay we did have a seperate check in area and our bags were taken to our room later in the day, we asked for a lake view room which we did get - but I didn't pay for a lake view room - bonus!! We also got a complimentary tea+coffe basket which was 4 paper cups, some teabags, coffee, sugar and about 6 milk jiggers!!

There wasn't a seperate breakfast area for Admirals floor apart from one breakfast we were shown to the Yacht Club and non admirals floor were being shown to the Cape Cod. Other breakfasts you could choose either restaurant to go in, although for 2 of our breakfast's we chose to pay €12 each and upgrade to the Captains Quarters where you could help yourself to a cooked breakfast if you wanted and it was much more quiter and leisurely in here!

Also on Admirals floor you get free pool towels, and you also get the option of room service if you want it.

I personally would save myself the money and splash out on the Captains Quaters Breakfast instead on arrival, they can only take 75 guests in here and it is so different to the usual scrum at breakfast time!! You found a table, were served tea+coffee at your table, you helped yourself to the buffet, it was quite small but then there were not many people dining in here, and as soon as something started to run down it was replenished! You could easily spend an hour in here just waking up to the morning!:)
