I'm a new member, but have followed this site (and love all the tips) when planning trips. We are planning a trip in June and will stay on site for 6 nights (our first night will be off site, but at a nearby hotel). We have used 8 day Parkhoppers in the past (DL used to offer, then we visited after they stopped (June 2010 visit) and we were told by AAA we could upgrade at the park, so they did honor that...after over an hour waiting for approval). I have read posters saying they did this recently, but when I called the park they said they don't do it. Can anyone help me figure out how to do this? If there are other boards I should read, can you point me that way? We are surprising our girls (3 & 6) and would love to go to the park the night we arrive.

Thanks!

We did that while we were there, from Dec 19 to the 28th of dec.

You cannot do it at guest services at the park entrance (or at least that is what we where told) There is a store and I cannot remember the name of it, but it is just behind the amc theater in dtd and that is where you can add park days. We added two days to our 6 day passes for 5.00 per pass, yes you heard that right 5.00 per pass.

The only thing is that you have to turn in your pretty plastic credit card style passes for paper ones. But it was really easy, and that was for 19 of us.

Was it the Walt Disney Travel Company's office (behind AMC, across from DLH)? That's where we did it in 2008 - but it was such an ordeal I figured we'd never be able to do it again! We had a brochure from the year prior in our vacation package that mentioned upgrading tix and that's why they finally let us do it. When you did it, did you just ask to add days and there was no issue? Did you have to wait til the end of your stay or did you do it early on?

Thank you so much!

Now that I talked to my DH here is what they did in the end (I was not there, but having my morning coffee lol)

They did go to the travel office in dtd, but the lady told them there that they could do it at the ticket booth at the park entrance. From what he says it was easy, just explained what they wanted to do, turned in all the cards and got new paper ones with our names printed on them.

We added the days about 5 days into the stay.

We did this as well at the front ticket booths. We tried at City Hall first and they were going to charge us full price. After an hour, I said I would just order online then. I went out to the main gates and asked and in less then 10 minutes had our 3 day tickets turned into 7 day tickets. Super easy.

Hi,

I contacted the resort by eMail to confirm I could upgrade our SoCal 3-day Hopper to a 4-day pass, they said we could and I quote part of what they said below.

"Please visit any ticket booth location at the Disneyland Resort. Our
Cast Members will be happy to assist you with determining the best
upgrade option for your needs."

cheers

Dean

Thanks for all your checking... we are just so hopeful we can add the days for a reasonable cost.

So, I have another question for you... I looked at WDTC's link through the DL website - they mention they can make changes to your travel booked with them. Did you originally buy your tix through WDTC or someone else?

Glad I could help. We booked through Disney Travel, as I have always found it just easier.

Curious if anyone has done this recently. I called this week to see if I could get 7 days instead of 6 days and was told no, I'd have to get an AP.

Prior to our trip less then 4 weeks ago, we called and were told the same thing. Could not upgrade beyond 6 days without becoming an ap holder.

However, again, we just upgraded our tickets to 8 days total while at the park for 5.00 each, that was just less then a month ago so I cannot seeing them changing this without someone on here posting about it before now.

I was really pleased that you can do this, made the trip even better knowing we did not have to choose between going into the parks or not based on having to pay to upgrade to an ap.

Homemom,
It looks like you're going to the parks soon. If you go and try to upgrade your ticket, will you report back and let us know how it worked? Are your tickets through WDTC too? Wondering if it has anything to do with where you purchase tickets.

Thanks - and hope it works for you guys!

^^^People have done the upgrade while in DLR recently. They won't tell you about it over the phone, because they don't sell these tickets ahead of time.

Yup, it was here that I read that we could upgrade without issue after I had called and asked and they said no, you have to upgrade to an ap.

That is why I am so gratefull to those who post here with their experiances, and knowledge, it really made planning our trip this time even easier then our prior trips.

Same thing with the fastpass being able to be used after it's time. Disney will not tell you this per se, but those who have been there can confirm it.

We leave next week, I'll report back. Yes, it was a package deal with WDTC.

So, how was your experience extending your tickets?

I'm hearing that adding days to a six day ticket costs $5 a day, but does this apply if you buy your ticket at a promotional rate such as they have now through the spring? Will they charge $5 to add a day or do you have to pay the difference between the promotional rate and the full gate price for the original six day ticket before you add a day for $5?

It's $5 more to add a day from the gate price. So if you buy your tickets at a discount, you could get lucky, but expect to loose the discount's savings. You are likely to have to pay $20 to add one day then $5 per day for each additional day after that.

Thanks Skiingfast. I kind of suspected that, but I wonder if there is a distinction between having bought tickets at a dicount source (AAA, Costco, etc.) and buying them from Disneyland at their current promotional price. Has anyone bought the current winter/spring promotional multiday park hopper tickets and added a day at the park? What did it cost in that case?

We are hoping to get our tickets with Airmiles. If we only have enough miles to get everyone 5 day hoppers we are hoping to add on when we get there. Has anyone upgraded tickets from Airmiles?

I can confirm that yes, you will lose your discount if you upgrade. We got our hoppers last year from AAA, we wanted 4 day but the office only had 3 day, so we got 3 day tickets. We went to add days and they were going to charge us $10 per ticket instead of $5, when I asked she told me we lost our discount and then I mentioned that AAA had discounted 4 day tix as well and she was able to make the adjustment back to $5. However, we also upgraded again to add a 5th day, at that point we did lose the discount because AAA did not have 5 day hoppers available.

Do tickets purchased with Airmiles have a value? If so you will be charged the difference in the "price" you "paid" with your miles and the ticket price, however if the tickets purchased with Airmiles have no value you cannot upgrade, you would have to purchase additional tickets.

I guess it just really depends who you get on the phone. Last week when I called to ask the same question the lady I talked to said it is an option to add on a 7th day but she wouldn't be able to give me a quote. They will have to do that at the ticket counter. We are going to give it a try for an extra day for $5 if that is what it comes out to be.
