Upgrade tix to AP, question

We are heading down to US/IOA at the end of August. I was planning on getting AP since we have a Disney trip scheduled the following year. I didn't realized that you could buy day pass tickets and then upgrade when you're there. (these boards are a wealth of knowledge!)

Anyway, I think I'd rather do this since I don't know yet if the kids will want to even go back the following year. So, here's my question, my husband's work has the TicketsatWork program and I can get a 4 day Park to Park pass (B2G2FREE) for $174.99

I'm assuming that when/if I upgrade I will get credit for the $174.99 applied to the cost of the annual pass? And do I have to upgrade on the 1st day? Or can I wait till the end of the 4th day? What day is the AP considered activated? Let's say I go 8/15, 8/16, 8/17, 8/18. And I upgrade on 8/18. Would I have 12mos from 8/18 or from 8/15.

As petty as this sounds, it really does matter. We go every August at the same week and I want to make sure I can get it to work out that we will be able to use the AP before the 12 mos is up.

Thanks for your help!

You can upgrade on the last day of the four day tickets.
Your AP will start and end on the first day of use of your four day tickets.
I'm not sure what you'll be credited for when making the upgrade.

Alas, just like with Disney, it goes back to the first day of ticket use.

So your last day would have to be August 15th of the following year, if the first day you used the ticket was August 15th of this year. (you can get in on the day it expires)

As far as upgrading the first day or the last day, If you wait to upgrade your 4 day ticket "should" include admission to the City walk clubs if that's important to you. The you upgrade right away to a preferred annual pass you will get 10% off food and merchandise (you can also get 10% off food and Merchandise with AAA or Amex with $50 min. on Merchandise). Upgrading right away would also let you get the annual star card for photos if that's important to you.

Even if you can't get 2 trips out of the annual pass, I'd still consider pricing an upgrade to a power pass. I don't know specifically about those tickets but I upgraded my regular 4 day ticket I purchased from Orbitz to a Power Pass for free. I don't know how the "2 days free" effects upgrade value. Right now, Universal is giving "gate value" when exchanging tickets. If you can get a power pass for free, you could renew it next year if the dates don't line up. Right now, renewal on a power pass is $135+tax and a preferred pass is $160 + tax. So next year might not be free but it would be cheaper.
