I am not sure if I will be taking a second trip to WDW in the next year, but I will know better at the end of September 2011. Can I buy a multi-day ticket from Undercover Tourist (pre-August - when the ticket price usually rises) and then upgrade that ticket to an Annual Passport using the DVC discount when I know better at the end of September when I am in WDW?

Any help much appreciated!

Yes, as long as you do the upgrade within 14 days of the first time you use the original ticket. The DVC annual pass will be backdated to the first time the original pass was used.

You need to do the upgrade on-site (at a Guest Relations ticket booth), an you will need your DVC membership card and a photo ID and of course, $$ to pay the cost to upgrade.

Check out this thread for more helpful info on tickets and upgrading:

Everything About WDW Tickets

We have done this a couple of times -- last time just as you have contemplated - bought a 6 day NE, PH from UT before the August price increase, then used them once and upgraded to the DVC AP in December. We did it at the Guest Relations window at DHS. The cast member gave us a hard time -- "..if you wanted an annual pass, why didn't you just buy it...", "... looks like you found quite a loophole..." , ".... I'm not suppose to do this, but ...." ,

Initially she tried to get me to pay the upcharge from the discounted price to the AP price -- not from the current gate price of the UT ticket to the AP price.

In the end, it all worked out, but she was not a happy cast member.. Oh well.

So did you pay the new DVC annual pass price or the old DVC annual pass price (pre-August)? How much money did you save?
Thanks!

Wow, I'm so sorry! Cheshire_Figment has posted many times that this "loophole" is in the manual, they are supposed to "bridge" the price... These rogue CMs are so annoying!

I'm not Mac, but he would have paid the difference between the *current* value of his ticket and the current cost of the DVC AP. The discount comes in when they "bridge" the cost of the ticket to the current value.

It's different at Disneyland, where they do NOT bridge it, and you pay the current AP price minus the *price you paid* for your ticket. YOu don't keep the discount at Disneyland...but when the CM at WDW follows the manual and turns the value of your ticket into the current value, you do keep the discount.

Does that make sense?

We paid the "new" AP price, but since we bought the tickets at UT before the August price increase, we saved about $57 per ticket from the new DVC discount AP price. I had done some calculations to figure out which UT ticket would give me the most savings and that was the one we bought from UT. Somewhere on this board I posted my calculations -- but of course I can't quickly find it now.
