Upgrade ticket "bridging" at Disneyland?

I bought discounted tickets via my DH's retirement program and now I'm thinking of going ahead and coughing up for an extra day so we can enter Disneyland on Sunday evening so we can see Fantasmic and the fireworks. I have "bridged" tickets in WDW before where the face value of the ticket was applied to the upgrade and I only paid the difference between the face value of the original ticket and the new ticket. Does Disneyland apply the face value or do they apply the purchase price to the new ticket?

Does the ticket price (that you paid) display on the ticket itself? Usually it's the purchase price of the ticket itself.

Can I piggyback off this question and ask if it's still possible to add a day in the middle of the current ticket's use? ie. I'm thinking of going for 2 days, but middle of day 2 I want to add a day?

Instead of upgrading, can you book an additional single day ticket through your husband's retirement program? Since you are staying at the DLH, have you tried contacting Disney to see if they can add an additional day?

I get the dilemma! Disneyland usually applies the purchase price you paid for the original tickets when you upgrade. So, if you bought discounted tickets, they'll likely base the upgrade on that lower price rather than the face value. It might be worth calling ahead to confirm just to avoid any surprises, though!
