Upgrade Possibilities at Polynesian?

I just booked a garden view room at the Polynesian for mid Nov. After reading these boards I just couldn't help pricing a concierge room since it will be our 20th anniversary. The difference is $60.00 per night for our family of 5. I would really like the advice from those of you who have stayed concierge at the Polynesian (we do not travel much and it is a luxury for us to be staying here at all).

I know being offered an upgrade to concierge is rare and I wouldn't expect it but has anyone been offered to upgrade upon check in and at what cost? Also, has anyone ever been offered an upgraded from garden view concierge to lagoon view concierge?

Also, will the Hawaii building be done by November? The thought of staying in a newly referbished building is very appealing.

Hi there! We were given a FREE upgrade from GV Concierge to LV Concierge on a trip we took in May 01. It was wonderful and totally unexpected. I never asked for anything but a non-smoking room, so boy were we surprised. I think that it is about luck and availability. Any room at the Poly is wonderful. Have a great trip.

The refurbishment to the Hawaii building should be over in Oct.
We have never been upgraded. But up until this yr we have always had a lagoon or lagoon concierge room.
If you are going in the off season (not holiday time) in Nov. you might have a better chance. But I think it just happens by sheer luck.
I would say if you can afford to do it , do it. We usually go as a family of 3 myself , DH and DD. Concierge leaves Cokes, juice, and water out all day. The breakfast is like a deluxe continintal one. The only big breakfast eater in my group is DH and he usually goes down and gets a bacon and egg croissant at the snack bar to go along with whatever else he has nibbled on from concierge.
You would probably spend at least $40. a day if eating breakfast in the parks. In concierge the rooms have fridges. That would be another $10. day. And we usually have a late lunch in the park then have appetizers from the lounge in the evening. Oh and lets not forget the desserts!Lunches in the parks or hotels are usually much cheaper than dinners. And hear is a bit of info I have never heard anyone put on any boards I have seen. In summer at least, it is so warm (really hot and humid) you really don't feel like weighing yourself down with a full heavy meal at any meal.
Not sure about Nov. though in that respect.

We stayed lagoon view concierge in Nov. It was worth every penny! The parks closed early and we could go back to our room or the concierge lounge and still watch the electric water parade and the lights changing on the castle. The water and the sodas in the lounge definately help cut cost throughout the day. The food was great in the lounge ( even if your children are picky eaters) You also get the feel of that you are being treated to an extra dose of pixie dust when you stay concierge. We only have 22 more days until our next dose of pixie dust!!!! I can't wait 11 nights of the Poly! I'm still hoping we can stay in the Hawaii bldg
before it closes for rehab.(it is so close to volcano pool) Keep your fingers crossed for us.

Hi Lisa... 60.00 per night more for concierge for 5 people? You have to be nuts not to take it...

How much does breakfast cost for your family of 5?

How much do you spend on water, sodas, coffee, snacks, hot foods at dinner time, desserts and drinks in the evening..

For the extra amount you get breakfast, plus all that I have mentioned ++ access to the lounge and a staff of CM's making your PS's for you?

With 5 people I can't see why you can't save money that you would normally put out anyway.

Thanks - I think I just needed to hear that I could justify the extra cost. I really feel that this is the trip to splurge - after all we already have APs and it is our 20th. Now how do I convince DH?????????

You convince him by telling him much $$ you can save with the concierge breakfast, snacks and drinks for 5 people. I managed to do it easily this way - show him costs for breakfast for 5 people and that will probably cover the $60. With water almost $3 a bottle it adds up quick.

I also think that $60 a day for concierge is a bargain for a family of 5 if you can do it.
