upgrade info

AnnMorin....absolutely...positively you are so right regarding the verandah or no cruise....and by the looks of this board people here cruise so much....with some people doing 20 cruises in such a short period of time...you have to economize...and I do realize you are not in the cabin that much....just seems it would be nice to wake up early and sit on the verandah and watch the sun come up....have a great cruise!

Lets not forget the supply of the 3's and 4's are very few, so
Statistically speaking the majority of upgrades will happen from the lower categories to the 5'sand 6's not from the 5's and up to the 4's and 3's.
All the Best,
Bob

From what I see here you are now in a cat 5, the cost to upgrade yourself to a 4 is about $200., if you do it before you leave. A cat 4 room gives you a few extra feet between the couch and the veranda, this is the space needed for the pull down murphy bed, but when the bed is down it makes it tough to get to the veranda. The cost for 4 to 3 is about $2000. before you leave, but like I said all they charged me was $598. at the port, the differance between 4 and 3 is huge, you have a seperate bedroom and bath that takes up the same sqaure footage as a cat 4 room,it's like haveing two cat 4 rooms. The batrooms are much larger and both have a FULL size shower, the bedroom bath also hase a full size tub with jaccuzie jets, we never used it so I can't tell you how it works, never found the controls, the bedroom also has a walk in closet, and a seperate makeup area, the room has large tvs on each side, there is a table with 4 chairs in the main room, the veranda is the size of two cabins with 4 chairs on it. our room stuart also brought a roll away bed in each night for one of my sons to sleep on.I think we lucked out, as mentioned here earlier there is not that many cat 3 rooms on the boat, so if you dicide to try your luck at the port, the chances of one being available are slim.On our next cruise I will most likely book a 4,and try for the 3 at the port again, but who knows maybe I'll bite the bullett. cat 3 also has concierge service, they leave something in your room each day, fruit, soda, water,a nice little desert plate with chocolate covered strawberries and a little chocolate version of the ship, the have a little concierge reception, but the best thing they do is arrange all you excursions, spa treatments, and palo for you so you don't have to run around.come to think of it I will book a 3, maybe they will upgrade me to a 2.;)

MBD1215...thanks for the explanation....as much as we would feel real special in a category 3...we are pretty simple people when it comes to service needed...we don't book many excursions and last time did Palo one time..just to see what it was like....and it was real special but we are simple with the foods we eat.....and some of the things offered where different...and we kind of shy away from new things...but we will do Palo one night this cruise also....but a category 5 will do...and I am sure it will be a great cruise...looking forward to see all the DIS people on the 11/30 cruise.....23 days to the Magic....

enjoy your cruise, we had a cat 6 last time, same room as 5. we had a great time, as I am sure you will.if my boys were younger, and smaller(17,13 each 6' or more, each over 200lb), we would have stayed with the 5 or 6, but I was worried about the pull down bed.

by the way enjoy your upgrade, you are truly one of the lucky few, complimentry upgrades are FEW AND FAR BETWEEN, I don't know the ages or size of your family, but a 5 should be fine, enjoy the veranda, it is truly magical just to sit out there and relax:)

Just checked my cruise statement and we paid $1778. for 2 adults before taxes and transportation. We declined the insurance and we booked before we left the ship in a category 8...now in a category 5...and just happy with the situation. I will not inquire about going any higher...just 2 of us and the verandah...life is good....

I just returned from 6 nights at the Dolphin and the 10/31 Wonder cruise booked last February. I purchased a Cat.5 (5132) and someone else's name was attached to the room- the first question I was asked at the port is if I was there on the right day...YIKES! She punched in my name and with a big smile told me I had been upgraded to a Cat. 7 (7024). Didn't ask for it, didn't cost me extra. Meanwhile, the family I sat next to on the DCL bus was in line by me again to enter the ship and she asked for an upgrade to purchase and was told she could not because the boat was full. Luck it seems could be the reason I got an upgrade. But we were also a party of 3 and were seated for dinner w/ a family of 5 from deck 8 so maybe that's the reason.

I also got an upgrade at the Dolphin from a standard room to an east (Epcot, Boardwalk, MGM) view w/ a balcony.

Liz, actually you got upgraded from a Cat. 7 to a Cat. 5 -- it's the other way around. :) Upgrades are always from lower number to a higher number.

Good for you! :)

:p I realized that after I logged off. I shouldn't post right after work. The room and cat. numbers are too similar.
