Upgrade help please!!!!!!!

I need help with an upgrading question. We are planning to take advantage of the free dinning promotion we will check in on Sept 29, 2011 and stay for 9 nights. We are booked at POR but I am thinking that for the difference and price and the fact that we want to do WDW again in the summer that maybe we should switch to a value but we want TS credits. I know you can upgrade but I have a few questions! One is can you do that over the phone when making your reservation? The second is it looks as the price is the same for kids on both plans and was wondering if that is correct? The third question is it holiday pricing at that time of year? IF I did it correctly it will cost us an extra 198 dollars which will save us a 698 dollars and that is basically our airfare. We have been wanting to try a value (think the kids will love it) but we always go to WDW during really busy times so this may be our chance because I do not think we will be dealing with mass amounts of people since it is beginning of October and the end of free dinning for those who do not check in by Sept 29. TIA

I upgraded over the phone some days after making my reservation, and it was fine.

The upgrade from QSDP to DDP was about 11$ per adult (2011 prices). Not sure how much it is for kids as mine are over 10 (and under 3).

No charge for the kids to upgrade since the plans are the same price. I upgraded our Sept. 2011 trip and did it when booking online.
