Upgrade dance!!!

We are on the May 7 Western. Got our docs today AND an UPGRADE!!!
Went from Deck 2 Catagory 9 to Deck 7 Catagory 5!!!

Of course we wished for one but that was it.

As far as I know, you can't request one, you just get lucky if you do get one.
We booked 14 months out, through a local travel agency. We had requested specific staterooms (only because we wanted adjoining staterooms with my parents, and the rooms we requested were all that were showing available for catagory 9 at the time). When we priced it, in March of 2004, we compared Cat. 9 and Cat. 6. The Cat. 6 was going to be over $1300.00 more for a verandah, so we went with the Cat. 9. The $1300.00 would cover the cost of air, and then some, for our family!

so...according to the above stated and now that I look through old posts regarding this topic.....is it just PIXIE fate that this occurs to people? It is just like winning the Disney lottery of sorts? What is the earliest a person would find out? Do you always know if it happened to you by the time you get your cruise documents or can it even be later when you are actually registering at the Port?

that really is great lostgirls- guess we wont be "deck mates" anymore! but what a great upgrade!! you all must be so excited

i was wondering the same thing if you could actually get a "free" upgrade while at the port??

i would have loved to have a verandah but the price was approx $1200 more and i just couldn't justify this with DH- but if i can get an upgrade for under $600 at the port with verandah i will take it- if not, it will be OK, we are actually on a disney cruise

Quick question:

Did you say you got an upgrade and you have connecting rooms? Were both rooms upgraded? And are you still close? I have two cat 10 connecting for our cruise later in the year, and figured that we won't get upgraded since it is 2 rooms, etc... But you have given me hope!!! Send me you leftover pixie dust.....

Yes, we have connecting rooms and both were upgraded (and they are still connecting rooms)!
