Our DS (8) does not eat the items on the children's menus. Can we purchase the adult dining plan for him? I would assume that you would have to purchase an adult park ticket as well.

Yup, you assume correctly.

In order to purchase the adult plan for a child under 10, you would have to register (or re-register) them as a 10 year old. This would mean that you'd have to puchase adult tickets as well as pay for the adult plan (unless on FD, then just the tickets factor into cost since the plan is free).

I called and re-registered my son who is 9 as a 10 year old. I only had to pay $35 more. :yay:

Thanks for the answers. It will be well worth it to upgrade his ticket since he is such a good eater.:dance3:

Any suggestions on how to do this with FD? My daughter is a foodie, and I know she would be pretty upset having to choose from the kids menu when we are eating BBQ and sandwich wraps.

Call Disney and tell them you want to upgrade your daughters ticket from a child to an adult the cost should only be around $35.

I'm planning on doing this in the morning for my DD8 as well.

You will need to register the child on your reservation as being 10 years old.

If you are on the Free Dining plan then it works out to be a good idea.

You will have to check the $ when you start upgrading a child to adult on the QSDP that you have upgraded to DDP as now you are paying even more money. It may work out cheaper to just supplementing some of the meals.

My DD10 turned 10 during our last trip, during free DDP. I told the CM I made the ressie with that I wanted to have her as an adult for the trip and he said he had already done it. I was a little surprised as I knew I could keep her as a child since she was 9 at the start of the trip. I only had to pay the difference in a one day base ticket to get her the adult credit. She's not a huge eater but I wanted her to be able to get whatever she wanted. Oh, and if she wanted a kid's meal, I paid OOP. We used those saved credits (along with ones from shared meals ) for more meals. :goodvibes

This time we'll be on QSDP so it will be a little different. I'm actually looking forward to not having to make ADRs to eat. This is the first trip in years that I don't have a single ADR! We had the regurlar DDP 6 times to date. Frist time paid for, every other time free. ;)

I think I need to upgrade my 9 yo ds for our upcoming trip. We have FD and 5 day park tickets. If I understand correctly, it will only be about $23 to upgrade him (the difference between the child and adult 5 day ticket). We can probably still share some meals between my two oldest which might allow us to sneak an extra breakfast in!

Dumb question but if we upgrade our almost 10 year olds to adults for a trip, will our KTTW card say 6 adults (instead of 2 adult, 4 children)? Also, if we upgrade them to adults (we have free dining, need to pay the difference in child to adult ticket?) can they still order off the kids meal if they want?

Thanks!

Yes, your card would have six adults on the dining plan, if you register your four 8 year olds as four 10 year olds.

They could likely order a kids meal if they wanted. But you would use an adult credit to pay. Unless you used cash to pay for the kids meal, and saved the adult credit for another meal. Yes, you would have to pay for adult park tickets.
