Does anyone know if the regular annual pass they send you for your wedding can be upgraded to a premium annual pass? And if so and what I really would like to know, can the value of the regular annual pass ($675.21) be applied and/or upgraded to the DVC premium annual pass (which is currently $644.33)?

My understanding is that they cannot be upgraded. But I would ask your coordinator to confirm.

Did we find an answer to this?? I would love to upgrade to the Premier Passport for Disneyland!
I do have an answer. I talked to Guest Services when I was there in November. The long answer to my original question is YES it can be upgraded. However, the easier answer is NO. I’ll try to share the long answer and you can decide for yourself what you want to do.

As many have stated, Disney Fairytale Weddings is its own operating unit within the Walt Disney Company. Even within the Parks and Resorts Division of Disney, the individual units operate almost as separate businesses. You would think the Cruise Line, DVC, Resorts, Theme Parks would all be one company but they do not operate that way.

On to the AP. Guest Services said I could upgrade to the Premium AP, but I would only get a credit for what DFTW paid for the AP which I believe was ~ $235 and I could apply that to the upgrade. So in order to do a $125 upgrade, I would have to pay ~ $500. As a Disney customer, to me an AP is an AP and why should I care that DFTW got it for a discount when they gave it to me? That infuriated me and I wish they would just say the AP is a special DFTW AP and cannot be upgraded.

I had a very similar situation a few months ago when I talked to my planner about swapping my standard “free” room block room at the GF for a standard DVC room at GFV. Even though the rooms cost almost exactly the same, the best they could do is give me a credit for what DFTW paid the resort for the room (~ $290) and I could apply that credit to a DVC room (~$600). Thanks but no thanks. I am not paying $300 for a “free” room. Just tell me it cannot be swapped and I would have not given it a second thought.

I work for a large corporation and I understand how internal charge backs work. So in both cases, I just dropped it. But I bet another guest, who really makes a big stink about it, could make a good argument against their logic of a “free” AP or room.

Thanks for the update! We are paying thousands of dollars for our weddings and yes it's a really nice perk that we get APs. However, good grief!!! It's not like they'd be losing any money on us. I'm sure most of us as AP holders will be going to WDW more! Spending more money on hotel stays, food and souvenirs more frequently! Ugh!

Well that's a bummer. I had just assumed you could upgrade them and had planned on doing that so we could go to the water parks.

It looks as though it will be cheaper to just pay for a couple water park tickets out of pocket.

Thanks for the info.

you do get a pass holder discount on water park tickets. ;)

I would maybe try to ask again at the ticket windows? The annual passes should be able to be upgraded at the normal rate. They can't go down in value (from the AP to the DVC premium), but they should be able to apply the full AP value to a regular price premium AP. It definitely wouldn't hurt to ask again before buying water park tickets!
