My family all had AP's but had to buy 1 day base ticket for free dining last year so....may I upgrade those 1 day tickets to 6 days for an upcoming trip or are they just good for 1 day?
thanks

You can upgrade it to a 6-day ticket. You can also upgrade it to an AP if you would like. Just go by guest services BEFORE you scan the ticket, and you pay the difference for the new ticket.

Absolutely, positively DO NOT go to guest services before using that ticket!!

Use that ticket first! It is completely upgradeable for 14 days after first use, even if the days are "used up". Chances are, you purchased that ticket before last year’s price increase and will use it after this year’s upcoming price increase (without your actual dates I can't know for sure, but it's pretty darn good chance).

By using it first, it will be worth the *current* gate value of a one day ticket and therefore you need to only pay the difference between that and what the current ticket you want is. If you do not use the ticket first, you will pay the difference of what you paid for it and what the current gate value of the ticket you want is. And since prices went up ~5% last year and probably ~5% this year, that's a good amount of money.

Of course you may upgrade it to any ticket that costs more than the ticket you have at current gate value (since you WILL use it first).

I have a question. Three years ago we purchased a package and got one day tickets, but never used them because we had the balance of the prior years non-expiring tickets to use. They were on our room keys and I did not have them transferred to another type of ticket before we left. Dumb, I know!

I still have the old room keys, but I am assuming that they are not worth anything at this point. In addition, my son has now turned 10, but he was only 7 at the time the tickets were purchased.

Did anyone ever make this mistake and be able to get any kind of credit for the one day base tickets?

For the past two trips we have purchased our AP's in August online just before the price increase so I have not tried to take the room keys in to Guest Services to see if anything can be done about it.

Anyone have any experience with this kind of situation? And is there anything I could hope to get for the value of what I paid.

Thanks to all the ticket experts out there who help us.

One day base tickets never expire. You may use the room tickets to upgrade if there is a one day ticket on them. We do it all the time, as we have APs and have to purchase the one day base tickets to get free dining.

It doesn't matter that the tickets are on a room key; they are still good and will be forever unused. Next time, use the tickets and then upgrade them at guest services. See my post above. You will have to pay the difference between a child's ticket and the adult AP for you DS. It will only be converted for free if it had been used (and was still in the valid window).

Three years ago should have been MYW tickets, which is why you can still upgrade them unused. If they were tickets issued prior to MYW then the tickets would be valid, but you wouldn’t be able to upgrade them.

Wow, this is great news. I thought we were just out of luck.

But I should use them, even though my son will have turned ten by our next trip?

Another question.... since we are doing the Visa fd package for Dec., I will have this year's 1 day base tickets, can I use both sets of tickets (old ones from 2006 and the current ones) to do the upgrade for our AP's? That would save us some money this time around.

You can use them, but one ticket per upgrade. You can't combine 2 tickets to upgrade one AP.

Thanks again.

I guess I should use the old room key tickets this time around for the upgrade.

Do you recommend having the 1 day base tickets transferred from your room key to a separate ticket if you aren't going to use it during your current trip or doesn't it matter? Who can transfer it?... the hotel, or does it have to be done at Guest Services?

One ticket per upgrade. You'll have to save the other ticket.

It doesn't matter if you leave the ticket on the room key or take it off. Resort Concierge (located near the check-in desk, but not check-in) can take the ticket off for you if you want. Guest services can do it, but they have been known to temporarily lose your dining credits which only your resort can put back on, so if you do it, do it at the resort.

Your DS will have to have his ticket upgraded before he can use it. He cannot use a child's ticket. Unless it was a used ticket that is still valid--then Disney would upgrade for free. However, that isn't the case here. In this case, he will lose the "discount" (current gate value) on the upgrade; you will get full credit for what you paid for the ticket, just not any bonus money. You might just want to upgrade his current ticket and apply the child's ticket at a later date when you aren't buying any other tickets. It will keep your costs the lowest now, and still give you a bonus in the future when you have no other discounts. Clear as mud?

Thanks for setting me straight! I had actually called on this very same scenario, and was only quoting the answer that I was given. However, I am now not going to be able to take my last-minute extra trip, so I won't be needing to do an upgrade to the AP.

rt2dz,

Ok, I get you. That makes sense. We will use his current ticket for his upgrade to the AP this time around.

Thank you again. I'm so happy that we will not lose out. It's like bonus money found. Woo hoo!
