My little guy is having surgery around lunchtime today to remove an abcess on his neck
Updated:
I just got off the phone with his new vet. He pulled out of the surgery fine and is groggy but wagging like a crazy man. He has a shunt for the drainage and I'll have to apply warm compresses twice a day as well as his antibiotics.
The stitches can come out at the end of the week and we need to try and keep him quiet and to not lick the stitches. Because of where the abcess is, he can't have an Elizabethan collar. He does have some sort of neck roll on so I can't wait to see how he deals with that.
The vet said it was very good we brought him in right away instead of making an appointment because the swelling was getting worse. He was having problems swallowing and it would have caused him problems breathing.
We're going to watch it for 10 days. If it's not better by then, we're going to have to send him in for more tests.
