UPdated Little angry am I wrong

It's one of the most heartbreaking things when parents of newly diagnosed children think that their children are cured or that they've controlled the diabetes with homeopathic and whatnot treatments they've found on the internet, only to find out it was just the honeymoon period. A friend of mine's two year old was diagnosed and she truly believed her prayers cured him.

.
I could not agree more. I am no longer friends with a homeopath who talked another friend into denying her child insulin. Luckily the child survived (barely and only bec the father -- who had been kept in the dark -- realized their kid was not asleep but in a coma) but this homeopath carried on and on that the mother must have done something wrong bec 'no one really needs insulin if you eat right and use my supplements.'

I think a lot of these ideas grow and take root because diabetes can be so different in every single person, whether it's reactions to certain foods, the amount of insulin needed, the effects of exercise, etc. Many times you can do all the same things and have vastly different readings and you have no idea why. It's too easy when you or your children are newly diagnosed to find cause and effect and go with it. You want clearly defined cause and effect because it's scary and overwhelming. You want to believe there's an easy way to deal with it.

My husband has an aunt and a cousin with Type I (and his mother has rheumatoid arthritis), so I jumped at the chance to have my daughter participate in the clinical trials that tested for the genes and antibodies. My son's endo had a child who prolonged onset at least 18 months by giving him small doses of insulin every day. I would have done that in a heartbeat with my daughter if it prolonged full-on Type I.

OP, has your DH had his cholesteral checked? My DH's was sky-high because of the blood sugar levels. Even with the use of his statin drug his cholesteral was high. The combination of managing his Type Diabetes with insulin and the statin drugs, his cholesteral level has come down.

Also, the bite on his leg may not have healed because of the blood sugar level. Wounds on my husband's legs now heal slower.
