Wow! I noticed a few notes from the asst. mngr at Ramada Maingate (the one on Harbor across from Disneyland) regarding future construction on Trip Advisor so I took the time to email inquiring about it. We were considering this hotel for our stay in June.
So from Jan.-March they are doing a total redo of the pool area and the pool will be closed during that time, but I believe they have arranged for guests to use neighboring pools.
HOWEVER THIS IS THE BIGGIE.... they will be doing MAJOR CONSTRUCTION on the whole property starting this May, lasting 18 months!!!! He said they will be taking down 2 buildings and putting up 2 new ones!!! Wow!
I asked specifically if it will be major construction and very noisy, etc and he said YES!!!
Guess I'm back to square one choosing our hotel!

1/7/2011 UPDATE:
I just received an email from the assistant general manager of the hotel clarifying some things about the construction. ;) Here's it copy & pasted below:

I am contacting you in regards to the communication you recently had with Ozzie, our Assistant Front Office Manager, regarding our upcoming renovations. I just wanted to clarify a few things and give you additional details.

We are just about a week away from starting our pool renovation, which is scheduled for completion March 24, 2011. With any construction project, this is an estimated date and we are planning on this date at this time. We will be doing a full renovation, including the inside of the pool, creating a new beach like entrance at the shallow end, a new pool deck, enlarging our hot tub, and adding many water features including a splash pad. At this time these are our plans and we are confident this will be the end result. This is a project we are very excited about and look forward to the opening of the pool. For any guest staying with us during our pool construction, we have our neighboring hotels offering there pool use for our guests. This includes Anaheim Plaza (who just completed a pool renovation) and Best Western Anaheim Inn. Both of these hotels are within a 2 minute walk (one on each side of us).

We are also currently doing renovations to a large section of our standard and deluxe rooms. This is nothing that is causing major noise or disturbances as we are doing about 6 rooms at a time. This is a complete renovation of the interior room including carpet, furniture, bedding, artwork, paint, new bathtubs, renovated bathrooms, and air conditioning units. We are just starting to receive furniture and bedding and are looking to complete these rooms as soon as possible.

Our last renovation project is still in the final stages of planning. We are looking to start in 2011, and many dates have been talked about. Currently we are looking at city approvals coming sometime in May/June, which means we would most likely hold off construction until after Summer. I cannot guarantee these dates, however, I am more certain it will be after Summer as of where we stand now. Our plans for this project include a complete new front building (if you go to our website www.ramadamaingate.com and click on the about us tab and scroll to the bottom) you can see a sneak peak of our rendering. We are also looking at building a new 4 story tower in the back of the property. As all of these plans are subject to change as we do not have approvals on this at this time.

Thanks for the heads up. I just (5 minutes ago) made a reservation for June in case the Hojo Ent. rate is not available. Back to the drawing board for my back up hotel.

Exactly where I'm at too! Boo! I was all ready to book & was just waiting to hear back that they were just doing individual rooms and it wouldn't be much of an interference. Boy was I surprised to get an email from him basically telling me not to stay there!!!!

Oh wow no wonder the rates are so good right now! :lmao:
Thankfully the only construction going on when I'm there Monday will be the pool, which doesn't affect me really. But now I know not to book it again when I go back later this year.
Thanks for the info!! :goodvibes

Oh you're going Monday? Fun! Would you mind just double checking this info and ask when you are there? :) Thanks a million!!!!

Oh yeah definitely. I'll try to get as much info as possible!

I'm sure they won't be doing construction at night, but it would be bad if it was early morning or you needed to return to the room for an afternoon nap. I'm glad he was honest with you, hope you find a good hotel to stay in!

So when Cars Land opens summer 2012, we'll all stay at the Ramada! (Pretty sure they won't meet their spring deadline. After all WoC was spring 2010, and made a June debut!)

Hey, thats awesome news to me! I bet we'll be able to get a fantastic price during the construction! I'll be at DL from 6am to midnight anyway, so they can bulldoze all they want during the day!!! I won't be there to care, and I'll be saving mucho money *and* be right across the street!!! :cool1:

Yeah, just doesn't work for us when we have a 2 & 4 year old that will most likely need to take at least a quick nap mid-day! ;) Not to mention we are NOT early birds, LOL! But there are definitely great deals already!!!!

I just stayed there and the hotel needs some repairs.

IIRC the rate for Jan was $79 a night. For that price I would deal with the head ache.

We aren't early risers either...but for that price I think we could deal! LOL

Does anyone know what they are doing to the pool? Just replastering or are they adding things?

No, it's more than just that.
Here's a direct quote from an email I just received from them today:

I just received an email from the assistant general manager of the hotel clarifying some things about the construction. I find it very interesting! This is the response I thought I would initially get from them. I guess it's a real gamble. Who knows when they'll start the renovation ya know! I did appreciate her detailed email though! Here it is copy & pasted below (I also update my initial post):

I just heard of renovation and called hotel to get the scoop. They gave me specific details on pool renovation. The most exciting parts for me(my kids) was the enlarging of the hot tub and a brand new kids water area with shoot guns, fake palm trees, and squirters coming up through the ground. We have noticed that many of the resorts/hotels we stay at now have these features. We haven't seen one yet in Anaheim, so good to see that our favorite hotel is adding it. It will be a disappointment not enjoying the pool, but were coming in February, so most likelyu there wont be a need for one. With this announcement, however, maybe we will wait until it is finished and come back beginning of April. Anyhow, always a nice stay, service is great, new premium rooms are worth the extra $15, and have a great view of fireworks:banana:

It looks like they're going to get rid of their little food court. I thought it was a great feature of this property.

New pool area sounds really nice. Most of the pools around DLR are so generic they remind me of the pools people had in thier backyards where I lived when I was young in California.

I just wonder if they are going to jack up the prices after the remodels.
