Please help?!!? I'm soooo new to all this.

I have just deposited 2 -(2008)- 1BR weeks from my timeshare in Mexico to my account with II, I would like to stay at any of the 5 DVC properties for Nov 8/08- Nov 22/08.
When I do a search I can get 1 week in May @ SS, and 1 week in Aug @ VWL......ok so here's my nebie question:

If i take these weeks can I then exchange/change dates through DVC for my Nov weeks or am I committed to these weeks at those resorts only?

Anyone know what the cost is to do this?

Thank you in advance for your expertise answers!

:woohoo: Got 1 weeks so far!

No, DVC won't exchange the weeks you got via an II trade for something else. You have to hope DVC deposits what you need and that your trade is powerful enough to get it before someone else takes it.

thank you,
i'll place a request and see what happens, anytime is good if I can stay on site

An ongoing request is the way to go. If you can see any DVC 1 BR units more than 60 days out, you likely (but not guaranteed) will have enough trade power if a week comes up. The weeks you are looking for are a little more in demand so you may or may not get them. If you don't want the weeks there, don't take them as your chances of success with what you do want drops to almost zero. Good luck and let us know what happens.

I thought this was a lower demand season- after MNSSHP and before thanksgiving?:confused3

I'm not following you (blonde moment) are you saying if i place a request for those weeks and DVC doesn't come up I'll lose getting DVC at another date? Can you please elaborate :teacher:

Thanks again

It's actually a higher time than May and mid to late August.

What I'm saying is don't list or take those weeks unless you want them. If you take them it does not give you any advantage on getting the weeks you really want, quite the contrary, it makes it much less likely you'd get the Nov weeks. Your post suggested you were thinking about taking a week that was available and had the idea that would somehow give you an advantage to change to a different week and the truth is exactly the opposite.

:dance3:

II called me today- I can have BCV for 1 week Nov 2-9/08, so to took it.

It is a week earlier than i wanted but it's still close enough that I'm certinaly not going to complain :yay:

so now I've placed my second request for the following week and again Pixie dust & prayer that my next week comes uppixiedust:

Congrats and good luck. I assume the reason they called you was that it was not a week you requested.

Congratulations. Don't rule out Marriott Vacation Club if that second week doesn't come through for DVC. We just got back from a terrific week in a 2 bedroom at Marriott's Cypress Harbour - we had an absolutely wonderful stay there. Marriott's Cypress Harbour reminds me of Disney's Old Key West resort. Cypress Harbour is all 2 bedrooms, so we have had great luck exchanging our one bedroom units and getting 2 bedrooms at Cypress Harbour.

I actually gave them a 1 month time frames on my request (Oct 29- Nov 29/08) and all 5 DVC's so they called to let me know that something was available in my, time frame. And it was also only a studio vs a 1Br. that I had deposited. Which is still fine with me!

So Dean (:worship: timeshare guru)- based on your other comment "If you can see any DVC 1 BR units more than 60 days out, you likely (but not guaranteed) will have enough trade power if a week comes up."- Are you suggesting that I have good trading power with my other TS?

Thank you littlestar for your suggestion of the Marriott's Cypress Harbour- I knew the Marriott's were very good but i wasn't sure which one was the closest to WDW.

:thanks:

I personally would have held out for the 1 BR and would have preferred a good off property location to the studio, but that's me. It sounds like the reason they called was it was as studio and not a 1 BR as I assume you were searching for. Anything that matches your search directly they will not call you about.

If you can see 1 BR DVC options further out the 2 months, you likely have enough trading power to match if something comes available. But having enough to get the studio does not suggest you have enough to get a 1 BR or larger by any means. Keep checking II, if they have a 1 BR later you can do a retrade for an additional exchange fee, well worth it for the unit differences IMO. Just hold off paying your extra $95 fee just in case. As to whether a given timeshare has enough trade power to consistently match DVC is a difficult question without doing a number of searches. You can answer that yourself by searching for DVC over time. That way you'll know in the future.

The closest Marriott's are the older ones (the 3 Palms resorts). Grande Vista, Cypress Harbour and Horizon's are all around the same time/distance to WDW, I'm guessing 6-7 miles each. Which is best depends on personal preference, age of children, etc. For younger kids Horizons is best. When trying to trade up in unit size CH is best since it only has 2 BR. For a 3 BR, GV is best. Comparing 2 BR at each resort we prefer GV but many like CH for it's ambience.

Like Dean said, the Palm Marriott Vacation Club resorts would be the closest to the Disney parks/Downtown Disney. Marriott's Imperial Palms and Royal Palms have been refurbished and Sabal is presently being refurbished.

Grande Vista, Horizons, and Cypress Harbour are, like Dean said, within 6 or 7 miles of Disney. Cypress Harbour and Horizons are right across the street from each other on Westwood Boulevard. With younger kids if we aren't staying on Disney property, we usually stay at Horizons because of the zero entry pools with themed slides.

This last trip we had our two daughters and their husbands with us (no small kids) so we picked Cypress Harbour. Cypress Harbour had a lot of terrific free activities - Polynesian show, Zumba fitness class, water aerobics, etc., that my family enjoyed. This same trip we also booked an Animal Kingdom Lodge DVC studio on our points that was quite nice, too (one of our daughters and her husband stayed there part of the week). But the whole family agreed that Marriott Vacation Club is just as nice as Disney Vacation Club. Both clubs have terrific resorts - ;)
