Update: Pray for Dom- Dom has passed, His Services, Thank You- Page 48 post 949

Teresa, are you familiar with the Brain Injury ALliance of NJ?I am praying Dom gets into Kessler. My husband was at the one in Saddle Brook after his aortic dissection and strokes and he progressed amazingly there. He also did outpatient therapy there. Sending prayers!

I haven't updated for a while, as we're still in a holding pattern, & I was hoping to have some really wonderful news to share, but we're still waiting, waiting, waiting. My husband, Harry, & I visited Dom last evening. He looked great, was so alert & attentive, and was trying so hard to do what I was asking. You can tell not only by the intent look on his face, but also by how he looks at your mouth, and you can see he is trying to imitate the movements and sounds. His neck also gets very red the harder he tries. We try to keep it simple. We say hi, then ask him to do it. Touch his face, and his throat, and say use your voice. I also say to him, I love you, and it appears that he also tries to say that. I held his hand and asked him to squeeze my fingers. He didn't squeeze, but he definitely moved his hand and arm with intention, not reflex, in my opinion. At one point he tried to sit up twice, making noise along with it, sort of like a noise one would make when they're putting out a lot of effort. Hoping to hear soon that an acute rehab with a neuro specific brain injury program will accept him, and that his insurance will pay. The Kessler Institute for Rehab up in North Jersey requested his chart last Friday, and it's in review. The have a "disorders of consciousness program", which is really what Dom needs to be in right now. His disability rights lawyer is working hard to make that happen. So far Dom's lawyer and the insurance company lawyer have agreed upon Dom receiving an upgraded amount of PT, OT & speech therapy while at Linwood, but he's only covered until the end of September, for now. A neuropsychologist came to do an eval on Dom a few weeks ago. It was requested by the insurance company, I suppose to see if Dom was actually a candidate for more intensive therapy. Fortunately, the neuropsychologist agreed that he would benefit from a facility such as Kessler. Now if only the insurance company would agree, too. They are really dragging their feet. Keep on praying!

Dom & his mom, Can't you just feel the love!

The pic below was taken almost 10 years ago, October 2006, at Disney World's Fort Wilderness Campground & Resort. We were waiting to go into dinner to celebrate my son Mike's, & his then fiance, now wife, Steph's engagement. Praying for the day we can recreate this picture again! Words can not explain how much we love Dom!

Teresa, Dom looks so good! I know it is odd to hear from a stranger but my goodness he definitly seems to be in there and it warms my heart to know his family hasn't given up. I follow a few kids and adults who have had traumatic brain injuries and sadly you can just tell something is different. Dom doesn't have that look in my opinion. He even looks so much healthier from the sun glasses picture when he was moved from Florida to now. Will continue to pray for complete healing for Dom and that you guys don't have to fight so hard.

Thanks for the update on Dom, Teresa. He sure does look like he is making good progress. And the haircut looks great. He is so fortunate to have his mom, you, Harry and other family members as his advocates.'s Hoping the lawyer makes progress from his end also.

I just came out of lurkerville but I have followed this since your first post. As a mother of a son I & my family keep you in our thoughts & prayers.

Prayers for Dom and family. He is looking great, you can tell he has been working really hard. He will get there. He will get the help he needs. I don't even know him, but I feel proud of him. He has come a long way.

This is just so sad, the pics seem to really take it home for me. I cant believe these idiots are still arguing over where he can go or not. Wouldnt it be nice if the King of kings, just healed him over night, and he could just walk out of there and leave these "smart" people figure that out

PRAYERS AND GOOD THOUGHTS for his continuing recovery!:rose: He is very FORTUNATE to have such an CARING, LOVING family!:grouphug:

Prayers and good thoughts. I hope his lawyers can prevail, and the insurance company agrees for further treatment. So nice to see such loving family support. Hugs.

What a lovely post, bellebud, I completely agree!

Teresa, I disagree that your update was not sharing wonderful news because, my friend, it did! Praise God! I have a big smile that Dom was able to hold your hand and he did, in his own way, return your greeting of love. Dom knows, he truly does and you know what? So does Jesus! He is with you always and within Dom, too, healing and encouraging him away. Someone posted a while back that they looked forward to the day when Dom takes over these updates, so do I. I got a glimpse of feeling that joy in your post above. God Bless You!

ETA: Dom indeed looks quite handsome with his new haircut :)

What a fighter! Praying the insurance company will approve. I despise how they drag their feet on important treatment for people. Will keep praying!!!
