Dom looks great with his new haircut! I hope insurance approves additional treatment quickly. The look in his eyes makes me feel like he wants to get better.
I haven't updated for a while, as we're still in a holding pattern, & I was hoping to have some really wonderful news to share, but we're still waiting, waiting, waiting. My husband, Harry, & I visited Dom last evening. He looked great, was so alert & attentive, and was trying so hard to do what I was asking. You can tell not only by the intent look on his face, but also by how he looks at your mouth, and you can see he is trying to imitate the movements and sounds. His neck also gets very red the harder he tries. We try to keep it simple. We say hi, then ask him to do it. Touch his face, and his throat, and say use your voice. I also say to him, I love you, and it appears that he also tries to say that. I held his hand and asked him to squeeze my fingers. He didn't squeeze, but he definitely moved his hand and arm with intention, not reflex, in my opinion. At one point he tried to sit up twice, making noise along with it, sort of like a noise one would make when they're putting out a lot of effort. Hoping to hear soon that an acute rehab with a neuro specific brain injury program will accept him, and that his insurance will pay. The Kessler Institute for Rehab up in North Jersey requested his chart last Friday, and it's in review. The have a "disorders of consciousness program", which is really what Dom needs to be in right now. His disability rights lawyer is working hard to make that happen. So far Dom's lawyer and the insurance company lawyer have agreed upon Dom receiving an upgraded amount of PT, OT & speech therapy while at Linwood, but he's only covered until the end of September, for now. A neuropsychologist came to do an eval on Dom a few weeks ago. It was requested by the insurance company, I suppose to see if Dom was actually a candidate for more intensive therapy. Fortunately, the neuropsychologist agreed that he would benefit from a facility such as Kessler. Now if only the insurance company would agree, too. They are really dragging their feet. Keep on praying!

Dom & his mom, Can't you just feel the love!
The pic below was taken almost 10 years ago, October 2006, at Disney World's Fort Wilderness Campground & Resort. We were waiting to go into dinner to celebrate my son Mike's, & his then fiance, now wife, Steph's engagement. Praying for the day we can recreate this picture again! Words can not explain how much we love Dom!
