It's so hard to know when it's "time". When we put our boston terrier to sleep a couple of years ago it was heartwrenching but we were adamant that when we knew his quality of life was not what it should be then we'd let him go. We struggled so much with this and for us Bandit made it easy. He had a stroke in the middle of the night and could no longer walk
so it was obviously not an option to prolong his life. He had issues along the way he bled some after he peed but never had pain with that, he had a small stroke and then was deaf, he got arthritis and we bought him expensive medicine to keep him going but when it was truly time we knew and even then it was gut wrenching to see him fade away and watch DH hold him. Even as we were waiting for the vet to give the shot Bandit started licking my hand just like he always did when he smelled lotion. It was the right thing to do. I wish for you the peace that you've made the right decision when the time comes. Only you know what your baby needs at this point. I'll be thinking good thoughts for you and your family.

Tonight our cat gave us the clear sign that we were looking for
He is definitely having bowel problems again, which means that the colitis/megacolon is still present. I guess our vet was correct. Please keep us in your thoughts tomorrow, and thank you everyone for your kind words.
