Last night I got a call from the doctor office but exercised on caution because I was seeing her today and wanted to really make sure. The ultrasound on my left breast came out negative!!! However, because of my family history, the doc would like me to see my surgeon (in fact this is the one that did my carpel tunnel surgery on my right hand) and have him do a thorough exam and review the ultrasound films to be positive. He did a check on me about 9 months ago when I thought I found something and that ended up fine.
Also another step I am going to do is go see a Gynegological Oncologist and discuss the possibility of having the gene test done and also what his opinion is of my next steps because of my family history. My doc and I sat down today and this was the first time I really thought about this so thoroughly:
My mom - breast cancer and possibly colon polyps
My mom's mom - possible ovarian cancer, possible breast cancer, congestive heart failure (didn't have autopsy done so we never for sure if there was cancer but they were almost positive there was
My mom's dad - lung cancer, colon cancer
My dad - benign colon polyps
My dad's mom - benign colon polyps, breast cysts (i don't know for sure if she had a small amount of breast cancer), diabetes, heart disease
My dad's dad - stroke, heart disease - his sisters have had cancer but I don't know what kinds
My dad's sister #1 - malignant colon polyp that was removed - no treatment, breast cysts, lung cancer
My dad's sister #2 - benign colon polyps
My dad's sister #3 - benign colon polyps
My dad's brother - benign colon polyps
Needless to say I am basically a time bomb waiting to go off. We talked about the ages that all of these people have had these things happen to them and it was very scary. The younger they are, the higher chances I have. Never really knew that or never really realized that.
I want to say thank you so much to you all - the thoughts and prayers mean and meant so much to me. As I go along the way, I will update you as to each of my appointments. I actually am very anxious to go meet this gyne oncologist. Might be able to answer some questions that I've had for 6 years now. Thanks again - you guys mean more to me than you'll ever know - you've gotten me through so much in the past 8 months that I am forever grateful for!
