To recap, we had dinner @ the Kona Cafe Sushi bar.
We were told that the TIW card is not accepted there.
It caused confusion as both the sushi chefs and the Guest Services desk didn't understand that.
I sent a letter to both Disney Guest Services (DGS) and TIW
Heard from DGS who took my information, evaluated it and basically referred me to TIW.
TIW lady said that the Kona Cafe sushi bar is basically an enigma. It's two different style restaurants at various times of the day. Guess it's a coffee bar in the am and a sit down sushi bar in the evening. Disney/TIW doesn't know what to really do since TIW is for sit down restaurants. She refunded my TIW discount and said THEY need to work on it and come to a permanent conclusion.

I don't know but to me, it can be a non-TIW in the am and a TIW restaurant in the evening. It does totally close down from the am to the pm restaurant.
Seems easy enough. Anyway.... that's that.
Somehow, I would think that if you went today, they may NOT take it. "Tomorrow" may be another story though.

I'm with you in not understanding why this seems so difficult, especially when you consider a manager is supposed to approve all TiW transactions. Following an SOP like that shouldn't be so hard to remember.

The only thing I can think of is they want to avoid the situation where a guest will use it in the evening, go back for coffee and whatever else they sell in the am (I've not been in the am) and have the guest be told they can't use it then.
I can imagine the discussion that would ensue. <g>

TIW is not just for sit-down restaurants. It's also accepted in bars and lounges. A pretty good argument can be made for the sushi counter in the evening to be a bar/lounge as you can order from a full bar if you sit there, nor can I see that anything would be wrong with sitting there and just ordering drinks. (Yes you can get a wasabi bloody mary there...)

On the other hand, sushi can be ordered for carryout there, maybe they don't want to be applying TIW to carryout orders.

Good point. I've used it at the Tambu Lounge.
Hummm. If it is accepted there, why not at the Sushi bar.

:confused3

We dined at the Kona Island Sushi Bar on Sept 3rd 2010 and our TIW card was accepted and applied to our meal.

We also ate there in March 2010 and Sept 2009, both meals TIW was accepted also.

Lately, TIW is not being accepted. Mine was not accepted at the Kona Sushi Bar on September 2.

I vaguely remember the previous post about this - but I guess I'm not understanding all the confusion. The sushi bar is not listed on the most recent (August from allears) list of TiW locations. Whether it should be or not, or should be part of the day or not doesn't seem that relevant to me. It's not on the list, so I wouldn't expect to be able to use it there.

Since you can also order off the full menu from the Kona Cafe when eating at the Kona Island Sushi Bar I am surprised they don't accept the Tables In Wonderland card.

>>Since you can also order off the full menu from the Kona Cafe when eating at the Kona Island Sushi Bar<<

Can you order sushi while eating AT the Kona Cafe???
Guess the easiest thing to do if you can would be to get a table inside the Kona Cafe.

Yes, you can, but I would guess the problem is you can't necessarily get a table inside Kona without a reservation.

Right. Items at the Kona Cafe and the sushi bar are intermingled. You can cross-order from either menu at either location. That's why I think TIW should be accepted at the sushi bar. Kona accepts TIW and will apply it to sushi ordered in the Cafe. You would think the sushi bar would reciprocate.
