UPDATE on John-Cole's Rash.....Scarlet Fever!

Very common side effect of strep throat. Just keep an eye on him...lots of liquids...keep him resting...don't worry too much...he'll be fine. Both my kids had it in their pre-school days. They bounced back very quickly.

Hope he has a speedy recovery.
Does he have new games (Playstation, computer) / new videos from Christmas?

the word scares me too, hang in there and quit taking pics, your probably getting on his nerves :)

Scarlet Fever! I hope JC's feeling ok, Beth! I'm glad the dr got him on his rounds of antibiotics.

I have no idea what Scarlet Fever does. I would freak too!

I hope he recovers quickly.

goodness!! sending {{{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}}} and pixie dust john-cole's way!! hope he feels better soon!!

you know, my husband once told me he had a case of "scarlett fever"...;) but somehow i don't think this is the same thing...lol...

seriously, hope he feels better soon and hang in there beth!! they can do so much more for him now than they could years and years and years ago!!

Oh Beauty that is awful! I am sorry to hear about John Cole. I will keep you guys in my prayers.

I had scarlet fever in high school--about 20 years ago. My doctor said that now it's basically strep throat with a rash.

My hands and feet peeled really bad!

Prayers for John-Cole, Beth. It does sound scary!! Thank God for the knowledge we have today to fight these diseases.
{{{hugs}}}

Sorry that he has been so sick. Hope he is feeling better soon.

You might want to wait a few days and then throw away his old toothbrush. My doctor recommends this since you can actually reinfect yourself with strep. Yuck!

I don't know anything about scarlet fever, just wanted to say I hope your sweet son gets better real soon. Try not to worry.

(((((HUGS)))))

Thanks so much everybody! This place means the world to me....all of you mean the world to me! It is very scary but J.C. is feeling fine today. He is laying here answering Jeopardy questions...lol! It isn't time for the first antibiotic yet and I'm dredding trying to get him to take a pill for the first time. He is asking all of the normal questions...."What if it gets stuck in my throat!" Any suggestions on the best way to get him to take it?

I told him if he would just put it at the back of his throat and take a big drink of Apple Juice that it would all go down quickly and that there is nothing to it. Heck he swallows food bigger than thte capsule!

Believe it or not it helps if he dries his tongue and then sticks it way in the back and lots of water. Don't know why but it worked for my DS when he was 10 or so.

Beth, is the pill a capsule or tablet? Capsules are so much easier to get down. My daughter has to take 8 tablets a day and she can't stand the taste of them on her tongue. We suspend them in a spoonful of applesauce and she just swallows the spoonful and the tablet goes down. Just a suggestion. Good luck!

My nephew had it. Really, it wasn't a big deal. The name scared me too, but antibiotics wiped it out and he was was up and running in no time. Give John-Cole a big {{{hug}}} and tell him to feel better.

It is a capsule! I will try both ways! Anything to get him to take it. Hes so terrified of it getting stuck in his throat. Sad thing is I can remember being his age and being terrified of the same thing.

He tickled me while ago....he came in here and showed my his butt and there is a huge blue spot where the shot was given. He said "MAMA! Something is wrong!!" I then explained to him that the shot made hit butt blue...the medicine in it. He is acting just fine thank goodness. Watching movies. I was so proud of him last night in the Doctors. He sat there and let them take blood from his arm and then just layed there and took the shot. I tell ya when I was his age and the Doctor said SHOT...you would have to catch me a mile away screaming!!! I was so proud!

Someone told me to have my kids put a "puddle" of drink in their mouth. Then toss the pill into the puddle and take a drink. Usually the pill sort of floats in the liquid and goes right down.

My daughter practiced with a few tic tacs the first time. It helped that if it didn't go down it wasn't a chalky pill, but just a mint. Good luck.

Can't help with that! My 11 and 7 yr old STILL won't swallow pills-we have to get the chewable ones or the liquid :o !

Awwwwww. . poor little fella!!! :( :( :(

I can only imagine how that scared the heck out of you Beth!!! :o

I'm glad to hear he's feeling better, even if his butt is blue.. LOL!! ;)

Good luck with the capsules. . . hope he continues to feel better and is good as new soon. . :) :) :)

Yikes! I hope John-Cole feels better soon. At least he's on antibiotics now. I had DS at the pediatrician yesterday...scratchy throat, an ear ache on and off, sneezing and coughing. Ended up with an antibiotic for the ear. FIFTEEN days of it! He hates the taste...a chewable. I felt good yesterday, but this morning I woke up with a sore throat and I'm coughing and blowing! Too many sick little kids breathing on me! :(
