UPDATE:Major Butterflies...I Got a JOB!! :)

Thank you all for the well wishes. I JUST found out that I did not get the job.

I am SO bummed. I truly thought I did a great job on the interview. I had ALL of the skills required and felt like I conveyed that I have a very strong work ethic, which I do. It would have been a great position and I feel like I could have hit the ground running, but I guess it just wasn't meant for me. I really don't know what I could have done better or what else I needed. I feel like I am at an impass and I don't know which direction to take. It is so hard trying to get back in after all these years especially when everyone else is out of work and looking too. Sigh, I will keep trying, but as for today, well, it really sucks, especially when I was mentally preparing for an offer.

Thanks again, just wanted to update.

{{{{{{hugs}}}}}} sounds like both of us have been through simular things last week. It is so hard when you thought it went so well. I am praying something even better comes along.

Thanks, hugabearjo. I'm picking myself up today, dusting myself off and moving forward. I didn't see your post about last week. Did you have one? In any case, good luck in your job search too. I know it's hard.

Sorry it didn't work out.

Have you registered with any temporary placement agencies? I know my office tends to go through them for support staff openings. If you go on temp assignments, you'd be able to get some experience in various work settings.

Or, if you're only looking for supplemental income, if you have a college degree, you might be able to apply with your local school system as a substitute teacher -- might be better hours for you.

Best wishes.

Believe me, I SOOOO know how you feel. I was passed up for a promotion a few weeks ago (into a new position) and I felt like my world had crashed down around me. There was a lot of crying, a lot of anger... the works. BUT, this week (TOMORROW!!) I have an interview for a job that would be 100% better and 2x the pay!! Everything happens for a reason... trust that and don't be in a hurry. It'll all fall into place!!! :goodvibes

I am so sorry you didn't get the job. That is so frustrating! Would you feel comfortable asking them why? Maybe that would help you move forward. I know I would never have the nerve to ask but if you do - it might be a good idea!

I hope you figure out what to do - I can relate to your struggle!

Thank you very much. Everyone. Thanks.

Actually, DVCBELLE, I sent an email this morning thanking the hiring manager for the the interview and asked if she might assist me by telling me why I didn't get it...I told her it would be very helpful to me in landing the next job opportunity. I'm still waiting for a reply.

I'm sorry it didn't work out. :guilty: Consider it a practice run for the interview for the job you're really meant to have!

I just wanted to let you guys know that I kept trying and yesterday I got a phone call from a recruiter I was working with on a different opportunity and she said I got the job!!

I'm SOOOOO excited!! And nervous, and anxious, and...and...

The good news is that since I have been out of the market for about 9.5 years as a SAHM, THIS opportunity allows me to get my feet wet as opposed to a long term commitment. It is a short contract that only lasts a month (possibly longer) but it will allow me to contribute monetarily to the household funds and pay off my son's orthodontal bill! Woo-hoo!!!!

I just wanted to share my good news!! Plus of course, it will open the door for other opportunities. :)

I'm really lucky because DH's job is really flexible and he will be able to finish off his day here at home (he already discussed with his boss) so HE will be here to greet the kids when they return from school!

Wish me luck!

That is fabulous news!! And so great that your DH can be home when the kids get off the bus!!!

GOOD LUCK!

with you, finally saw your earlier post about not getting the original position, but then read that you got a different one, and I agree with PP that things happen for a reason! :goodvibes
Best of luck!

No problem, I'm a tech writer working in IT documenting software/ processes/requirements. Now don't analyze my writing here and check all my spelling errors on this board. This is free time and sometimes I type too fast for my own good. ;)

Congrats on the job. What a great way to get some experience without a huge commitment. That is nice that your husband can help out with after school. I was a SAHM for 9 years as DH worked over an hour away and all the responsibility of taking care of the kids fell to me. I fiinally went back to work a year ago when the youngest was a HS Senior to help out with the finances as this fall we now have 3 in college. Everything happens for a reason and when the timing is right I am sure you will find the perfect permanent position.

Thanks for posting this. Mostly you only hear negative news and it gets discouraging. Congratulations on your success!

I did a search for job hunting on the budget board and came across this post. I was wondering how you are doing a year later?

I've been a SAHM for 9 years and have been searching for a job for the last year. I had some really great interviews in January but didn't end up getting the job. I've had a lot of resumes out since but no interviews. Getting discouraged.

Any suggestions you might have would be appreciated.

I have 3 boys and would love to know how you are juggling everything.
