UPDATE: Kindergartener LOST

Just wanted to say I'm glad everything worked out okay for your daughter and she was safe. Kudos for the school for immediately fixing the system. And I think it's really great of you to thank the child that helped - says alot about you as a person!! Hopefully they will figure out who it was!

I love the way pickup is done at our school. For the younger kids, we park our car, walk to the classroom and the kids are released directly to us. If we are not there, or there is no one the teacher knows they are allowed to release the kids to, they wait at the classroom until someone arrives. The older kids are allowed to leave and walk to their parents cars but even then, probably 80% of parents will wait in front of their kids classrooms to pickup.

Happy to hear all turned out well. Reminds me of an incident with my daughter when she was in Kindergarten. She was invited to a Birthday party at a build a bear and the mother told us not to bother hanging around. Well the party was over earlier than she told us and they left my then 4 year old daughter alone in the store. Luckily another parent from the party noticed her alone and we were still in the mall not far away, but my daughter was devastated.

Wow, some of you have pretty complex dismissals. At the elementary school my dds go/went there is just a general dismissal for grades 1-5. Kids go where they are supposed to (hopefully).

In kindergarten, the two kindergarten teachers take on the responsiblity for the first couple of weeks - if a child rides the bus the parapro walks them out to the bus. If a parent comes into the school, the teacher dismisses them to them. If the parents are waiting a car, the teachers walk them outside and when the child sees their parents off they go. Oh, the campfire counselors come and pick up the campfire kids a few minutes prior to dismissal.

Of course, because I am a nurse and only work 2 days a week, it isn't consistent for my children what they are to afterschool. When they were younger I made a list out for them with each day of the week with bus, campfire or pick-up.

Wow, I can't believe how shocked people are. It's just like anything else in this world, you cannot have a contingency for everything. No matter how much a school tries to come up with a proceedure for every little thing out there, sometimes something happens. Right now, best thing is for the mom to not get too upset (it's not like the school wants to lose a child) and work with the school to come up with some ideas to prevent this from happening to any child going forward.

Pretty much sounds exactly like how it was handled.

WTH?!?!? Who does that?!?! I would have been livid!! I assume that was the last time she went to anything with that family. Good gravy!

Oh she is not allowed over to that house and we learned a valuable lesson as well, we never leave our kids at a party anymore.

Sounds like some great changes were made - I wish my sons school would make some changes.

I am so glad that the principal was willing to see changes needed to be made. My dd's school has a new principal who is trying to change things to her way of doing things, first week of dismissal was an absolute nightmare, took over an hour to dismiss all the kids. All the car riders were dumped in front of the school and anyone could pick them up (why bother filling out all the forms about who can pick up the kid or get the signs for your car if you are going to just let the kid get into any car?). She closed the parking lot so no parent could park and pick up their kid. Dismissal is slowly changing back to what it used to be, but I could not believe that she was ending the day 15minutes earlier to try to get all the kids out by a certain time. :sad2:

Our school district is in lock down mode all day with the exception of arrival in the morning. There is a reception desk and security camera system throughout the property. You have to be buzzed in to gain access to the building.
