Need the advice of seasoned Delta travelers as I'm in what my daughter states "that's a you problem". Long story short booked a flight for Christmas day a long time ago with a great price. We decided we want to leave earlier and drive due to a family situation. I read Deltas "Contract of Carriage" and in the refund section I understand it to read a full refund will be issued same way the ticket was purchased if Delta changes the scheduled time more than 90 minutes from the original time of booking. When I purchased the tickets the flight was scheduled to leave 7:00am now it states 8:25am. I realize its a change of 85 minutes not 90 minutes so I'm asking if anyone has ever been in my situation and what was their end result. I want to call customer service but don't know how to go about it. What should I say or not say to get a full refund?.....help

85 minutes is less than 90. Delta does not owe you anything at this point. If they further change your flight to a time difference greater than 90 minutes you could request a refund but until that time they are within the contract terms.

They know what they are doing and try to avoid exceeding the terms. I had a delta flight and the terms included say a 250 change fee. So as time went on and the flight was not filling, they lowered the ticket price by 240, so they would not have to deal with customers with tickets trying to change their tickets for a lower rate.

Update: first thanks for everyone's input and yes 85 mins is not 90 but I just called. I first spoke with a Delta overseas customer rep (you can tell when that happens) and explained my situation. In return she
said no problem I will transfer you to the refund dept. Next I spoke with Kathy from salt lake city and again explained my situation. She stated I would be happy to assist in canceling the flight and issuing a
full refund. After about 15mins I had a tracking number and told I should see a refund on my Delta Amex within 7 business days. I thanked her for all the help and thrilled to be a Delta customer.
So the lesson to the story is 85 is not 90 but its sure can be 90 when you get the right people. :cool1:

I'm happy to hear this.

I was going to suggest simply calling and telling them the new flight times don't work for you and you'd like a refund. The worst they can say is "nope, not 90 minutes". If that happened, I'd say don't agree to the change (if they flat out ask you) and wait and see if the times change some more.

Glad this worked out for you.

Thanks that's what I was asking from the start some feedback on what I should ask or say...

I know that it threw me that you were going straight for the refund. If you’d been asking about a change in flight time I would have said to call bc they generally do it for a change of an hour.

Felt a little convoluted though. To say “they’ll offer a different flight if they change it by an hour, and if nothing else works then they’ll refund you.”
Hmm. That doesn’t sound convoluted at all. Wish I’d said it. :)

My experience has been it depends on who you get. One time our return flight was around 12:30pm. We had planned to do a character breakfast at the hotel before we left. They changed it to 11:30am, which didn't leave us enough time. I called to see about a later flight and they said sorry, not enough of a change. A couple days later I decided to try again, I saw a later flight available for the same number of miles. I called and they said sure, no problem and switched us to the later flight.
