A week from tomorrow we leave on what I think is my 18th trip to Walt Disney World. My mom and dad took me there for Christmas the first year it opened and I've been hooked ever since! This trip will be just my DH and me--the kids are away at school. We're driving, stopping in Atlanta to see our daughter
, on both ends of the trip.
The last few times we've been to Disney, we've been on the dining plan. For my birthday last year, we had Deluxe Dining. Both my husband and I lost A LOT of weight a couple years ago and we've become careful about what we eat since we're happy with our new skinny selves.
We found it hard to turn down desserts on the DxDP since we felt like we paid for them. This time, we decided to go for the $750 gift card and we'll use that to pay for most of our meals. We're staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge and have a Savannah view!
Here are our dining plans:
Saturday (Atlanta): I took a Japanese Steakhouse cooking class at the Viking Cooking School earlier this month. We're bringing ingredients with us to make what I learned and I'll cook dinner at my daughter's apartment.
Sunday (Arrive Orlando): What we do for lunch will depend upon what time we arrive. We'll need to drop our 2 poodles off at the Ft. Wilderness kennel. We'll probably have a counter service meal somewhere on property--just don't know where. Dinner is at Artist Point. We haven't eaten there since the mid-90's. Our daughter and her husband were there a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed it very much. I hear the goat cheese polenta is quite good.
Monday: Breakfast in the room. I'm bringing our usual breakfast fare--yogurt for me, cereal and English muffins for DH. I figure this is a way to save money and calories! We've got a fairly early tee time at Oak Trails and will hit the Magic Kingdom after that. We're planning on having sandwiches from the Main Street Bakery for lunch. Dinner will be at Narcoosee's; we had dinner there for my 50th birthday and really enjoyed it so I am looking forward to eating there again. I've got my eye on the crab-crusted mahi mahi--anybody have that?
Tuesday: Breakfast in the room, again. We're going to try to get to Epcot for EMH. Lunch is at Teppan Edo and dinner is at Chefs du France. Both of these restaurants are ones we enjoy almost every trip.
Wednesday: BITR. No lunch plans yet--probably counter service at whatever park we decide to visit. Dinner is at Kouzzina; we're fans of Cat Cora from the Iron Chef so we're anxious to try this new restaurant. My daughter recommends the stewed chicken.
Thursday: BITR. No idea about lunch. We don't usually leave Disney property but this evening we're going to head to Margaritaville.
Friday: Sadly, this is our departure day. We will probably have a nice breakfast somewhere, pick up the dogs and hit the road. Not sure what's planned for dinner in Atlanta.
Saturday: We're going to Saba at Oak Hurst in Atlanta. It's an Italian restaurant that my daughter enjoys.
Sunday: Valentine's Day at Legal Seafoods in Atlanta. Looking forward to that almost as much as Narcoosee's.
Monday: Long trip back to Chicago...Subway for lunch and leftovers from our freezer when we get home.
