UP Characters when Redwood trail is closed?

I had heard the UP characters met along the redwood trail. When it is closed for refurbishment do they meet elsewhere? If so, where?

Just got back and we met Russel and the dog about 10 feet from the entrance on the way to Ariels ride.

A couple weeks ago Russell was doing meet & greet in front of the water wheel of GRR (next to bathrooms/smoking area near Ariel ride).

Was it closed Saturday? If so you are in luck because someone posted a pic of Russell yesterday on the mousewait app. If it wasn't closed then sorry I don't know the answer.
