Came home with pink eye! Haven't had it since I was about 8. Do you always need antibiotic drops? UGH! I have to go to work tomorrow. Other than that, we had a great time in W. Palm and St. Aug.

BUMMER!! I haven't had pink eye since I was in high school!!! Glad you had a good trip--other than the pink eye of course!!

I think you do need drops. My dh and the baby have just had it. What a mess. Ever tried giving eye drops to a squimy 18 month old. :sad2: Not fun. I hope yours clears up quickly!

I'm betting that that is a lot like giving them to a squirmy kid. (Maybe worse, at least the baby won't bite, well, most of the time ;) )

I just have one piece of advice - having been through this in a previous life. Go to either a good opthamologist or an optometrist for treatment, instead of your GP. Many of the different treatments have preservatives in them and the eye will react as adversely to the preservatives in the treatment as it can the pink eye. The oppies know how to figure out your eye PH for the right treatment, so you'll have a lot less frustration in the process.

From what I understand when my kids have had it, it won't clear up on its own without the drops, and it is EXTREMELY contagious, as you found out. You might consider staying home tomorrow. My kids were allowed back to school after they'd had two or three doses given, about 24 hrs. Our doctor called in a prescription without seeing us. Hopefully you're doctor will do the same for you. Good luck!

My employer would send me home if I had pink eye.

My DS just had it (he's still getting drops for it too). His school sent a letter home last week that a child in his class had Pink Eye they had also written the symptoms. Well, wouldn't you know that Friday morn my boy woke up with it! It is extremely contagious & my son was not allowed back to school until after 24 hours of being on the antibiotics. He had Pink eye in BOTH. Poor little guy! He's 4 y/o & DOES NOT like eye drops!

I'm not sure if it actually works, but...My future mother in law was a nurse in a nursing home, and she said that they used to wipe the patient's eyes with baby shampoo on a moist cotton ball at their first signs of pink eye and it went away. When my friend found this out (both she and her daughter would get it all the time) she tried it, and lo and behold it actually worked. That said, I've never tried it because I've never had pink eye :::knocking on wood:::.

Thanks all. Going to dr. at 8. If he says there is high risk of it being transmitted in an office then I definitely won't go in.
