Unwanted Solicitation

Has anyone else received a phone call lately asking you to sell your contract? I have received two calls in the last week from a company that comes up as Orlando, Florida. They have left a message saying that they have buyers interested in my Animal Kingdom contract and to call them to find out more. According to MS they don't give out the info and don't know how someone would get it. I figure they got it through County records, but I didn't realize that my name and contact info was public record. MS took the info and said they would look into it.

We have received two of them actually. They stated that they had interested buyers for "our week" at Saratoga Springs contract. Personally, I found it funny since we don't necessarily have a "week" at Saratoga Springs.
I didn't call them back at all and they haven't called again. It is public record since it is deeded property and you can find anyone's information on the internet if you try hard enough.

Be very careful of that type of solicitation. If you indicate interest, they will probably ask you to pay some kind of up-front fee. Once you do, you will never hear from them again and they will be gone from their current location before you wise up.

If you are interested in selling, do your research and do business with one of the well-established, reputable DVC specialists. The Timeshare Store -- the sponsor of these boards -- is one such company that we have purchased through with great results and we highly recommend them.

I got a call this week, and told them I was not interested in selling, and then they asked if I was interested in renting. I declined and did ask them not to call again. I thought I was on the do not call list but that may have expired.

Actually, I am on the Do Not Call List. Unfortunately, I have never spoken to them rather just gotten their message. At least if I had spoken to them I could have told them.

Just filed a complaint and called them back and advised them I was on the Do Not Call List. They claim they will remove me from their system.

I've received two messages asking the same. Do we want to sell our DVC? The interesting thing is that they left a name and number to call. More interesting is that according to the data on my phone both calls originated from a 1- 800 number in Missouri.I did not return either call.

It's not always easy! Today there is a lot of grumbling in Cardinal Nation over less than stellar play lately!

Hello all, I work for The Timeshare Store,Inc as a sales person have have been selling DVC for 10 years, I am also a current DVC member at OKW and I can tell you that I have also been contacted by these solicitation companies.
Since I'm in the Timeshare business I was intrigued by this call and wanted to find out what it was all about / the sales Pitch.

BEWARE, this call is solicitation and a company that will charge an UP FRONT Fee. This company is a rip off company and looking to take a $499 fee to list / rent your property. The problem is they don't actually do what they promise.

BEWARE. !!!!!!

These types of companies are looking for your money up front and then they will disappear. If any company it going to help you sell or rent your property, that company should be charging a commission once they have fulfilled their side of the agreement (which is to rent or sell) your package. This fee should be charged to your at the time of closing or for renting, once the reservations are confirmed and paid for. Good Luck and be careful.

I posted this on another thread regarding these calls.
When we received our documents to sign back in Jan. 2009, there was a piece of paper in them that was supposed to have been sent back.

If you did not send it in with the check mark in the upper right corner, then you are open to whatever Disney wishes to do with your info.
Check your contracts and see if the paper is still there, but the info may have already been shared and is out there circulating.

There are Timeshare Lead Generating business out there that will look up your information in public records and try and find to a phone number to contact you, once they have this information they will sell your information to a Solicitation company who try get you to list, rent or buy more Timeshare. I don't believe Disney is providing this information to these companies, it is the individual people / businesses looking up your information and then selling it to these outside companies.

This type of solicitation happens with all Timeshare owners, not just Disney.

As a matter of fact, the Timeshare Users Group (TUG) recently issued a warning about these scams and the founder of TUG was featured on TV stories about the illegal practice.

Advanced fee schemes are rampant in the timeshare industry right now and hundreds of timeshare owners have been defrauded.

No LEGITIMATE real estate broker charges up-front fees, and the legitimate timeshare resellers have recently formed an association to fight this ILLEGAL scam.

Again, if you are on the Do Not Call list, and you are not doing business with this company, they are in violation.

Go to the Do Not Call website and file a complaint. You will need the time of the call, the number that was calling if you have it and the name of the company and representative, if possible.

Check the website of you own state's Atty General also.

They can be fined and you can claim part of the award in some instances.

If people consistantly report these companies, it will go a long way to making them do business differently!

Jim, Our AG seems to be making some headway. But the scammers are like roaches -- darn difficult to eradicate.
