Unusual Wedding Invites

Hey Ladies! I'm hoping you can help us out. I’m having a hard time thinking outside the “envelope”. We really want to do an unusual and fun invitation that people will remember. But at the same time it cannot have an extravagant cost.

Originally we had scheduled a Wishes wedding, and were going use scrolls for the invites. But, we recently switched to DCL, and the scrolls don’t work as well. We made some mock-ups of a “message in a bottle” type invitation, but they look pretty weak! :rotfl:

Any creative ideas?

Thanks so much in advance!!!

YAY your doing DCL!!!!!! We thought about the message in a bottle thing. It could work and there are ways of doing it so that it looks really great without spending a lot.

If you do a plastic bottle it can go through the mail as is without a box. If you do a glass bottle you need a box and bubble wrap. I really liked the look of the glass but hated the idea of a box - which is why we skiped it.

I dont' know how much info you need to include but what we really really wanted to do and didn't (we still might) is to get a bunch of coconuts from your local fruit wholesaler and paint on them - they can go through the mail as is without a box and are $6 to send priority. The coconut itself shouldn't cost more than $1. Once upon a time they used to sell them as postcards on castaway cay. They don't anymore - I checked. Carribean Beach and Pirates of the Carribean sell disney world ones that are really expensive but it would give you an idea.

Coconuts are my first choice - depending on how many you need to do if you have to add more stuff to it - you can hollow it out. We drilled a mickey head into the middle and took all of the coconut out. I was going to put a piece of paper rolled up inside and just mail it as is. It was sooooo cute but depending on how many you have to do it could be some work. DF is a carpenter so he has all of the tools. Each coconut was about 10 mins to drill and prolly 20 mins to hollow completely.

Other things you could do would be to get DCL picture frames and put the invite in a frame - not my first choice but an idea.

It was also suggested to us to send out a bottle of Fairy Tale Cuvee with a tag around it. Its not the most economical and you can't ship alcohol in some states...

I really like the coconuts they are cheap and fun. How many people are going to expect a coconut to show up in their mailbox??

I will keep thinking.

I saw on the wedding channel the other day these people bought large shells and inside the shell they wrote on it like an invitation i thought it was really unique and different x

I guess my idea might be better for a save the date. But send them a beach ball that when they blow it up written on it is your wedding dates and time ect. They have small beach balls at The craft store Micheals for $1 each right now.

I really like the idea of coconuts! How did you get the white stuff (for lack of a better description!) out through the drilled holes?

My only fear with that is we'll be sending out about 40 invites, so at a 1/2 hour each, that could get pretty time consuming. Some food for thought though! I think I'm going to Google "Coconut Postcards"!

The shell might not be a bad idea. I wonder if it could be screen printed or something like that.. Hmm..

I actually researched having beach balls custom imprinted, and it was surprisingly inexpensive! DF was concerned if we sent them to our more elderly guests if they would be able, or have the inclination, to blow them up. But maybe we could do an alternate invite for them...

We're really exited about everything! I can't wait! Hooray for DCL!

Thanks guys! :goodvibes

If I'm not mistaken you can mail beach balls already blown up without a box. You just put the stamp and address on the ball.
