Unusual Packing Tips

Along with the pop up laundry basket, I also bring a hanging clothing sorter thing-those things that have seven compartments to hold daily outfit-I find it a great way to store my little guys clothes. I bring a small flashlight(Disney lighting at the resorts can be sparse)
If you wear glasses an eyeglass repair kit that can be found at the dollar store is a great item for emergencies. We had to buy one in Disney once and it was$20!never again.

Not packing, but I order cases of bottled water from Costco (about $8 shipped) and have them sent to the hotel about a week before my arrival.

I also buy glow bracelets at the dollar section at Target (about 15 of them for $1) They're fun for my daughter, and she loves giving them to other kids during Parades/Fireworks.

We bring this BELKIN MINI CHARGER instead of a power strip. It's small, light and has a USB slot for charging iPhone/iPad.

Wow, what a cool thing to travel with! (or even use at your home!). Surge protection, plus slots for power cords and USB chargers, all for about $10. Thanks for the link!

I always travel with a nightlight now. Makes it so much easier to find the bathroom in the middle of the night in an unfamiliar hotel room!

I bought a toiletries bag from AAA (they have them everywhere though) that you can pack everything in and then it unzippers and has a hook so you can hang it from wherever. I hang it on the door, or the knob, or the towel rack. That way all your stuff is still in the bag, saves counter room, and eliminates having to pack a shoe holder. I also bring a power strip, and plan on having food and drinks delivered from Garden Grocer, along with paper towel, aloe and sunscreen and other things that I would need to buy to bring anyway - having it delivered saves room in the luggage!

I also always get stuff from the travel section like the mini first aid kits, lint brush, fabric freshner, advil, etc. And the wrinkle spray which works really well if you aren't the ironing type like myself :)

Most of what I'm about to put are repeats, but worth repeating:

- Power Strip, but use a "squid" or "octopus" kind. Makes all ports usuable when you have bulky plugs
- At least 1 extra pair of shoes, helps to avoid blisters
- Body Glide, for chaffing and to avoid blisters(swipe it all over your feet before you put on your socks)
- Nightlight
- Over the Door shoe holder, this is a godsend to keep the bathroom uncluttered. Use it on all trips that are more than 1 night now.
- Tide stick, for those little spills in the parks
- Ziploc baggies with cut squares of shammy cloth in them, use them for wiping of chairs/benches/rides when wet, also for sweaty foreheads. And then you can throw them out or wash and reuse
-Small first aid kit

Hope this helps. I know we'll be packing these things for our trip with DN8 in September!

We always bring:
1. ziplocs (big for clothes/small for the half meal my daughter doesn't finish but will in an hour!) oh- and one for the remote for the tv!
2. lysol wipes. I "touch up" the room each day- want to make sure we stay healthy!
3. purell for our hands!!
4.tide sink wash detergent... (I won't do laundry, we pack light, but I can handwash a few things in the sink)
5. flushable wipes (to clean anything or anyone)
6. ponchos
7. glow bracelets
8. granola bars/snack bars because someone is always hungry at the wrong time.
9. hot shot (boils water), bags of tea, instant oatmeal. ( we stay in value)
10. advil/kids advil. tiny first aid kit with band aids and meds for tummy issues.
11. 2 pairs of cheap sunglasses (broke a pair- the ones they sell are like $20!!!)
12. water bottles with filters. the water in fla. is gross.
13. emery board.
that's all I can think of for now!

I pack lots of items that have already been mentioned... one of my favorites is something I learned here years ago.

I buy a couple of cheap, rectangle sponges...squirt my dish detergent on them, let it dry and then cut them into smaller squares. It is perfect for washing our refillable mugs back at the room. :thumbsup2

not quite a packing item but, I know someone who wrote their cell phone# with a sharpie in their kid's(4) arm just incase he wandered off

Great ideas. The best tip I ever got was packing your clothes in a ziplock bag. Leaves lots of room in your suitcase and it does not wrinkle your clothes. I put the whole outfit, including socks and underwear in the bag, push out all the air and zip up. Kinda like a space bag. I use the 1 gallon for the kids and the 2 gallon for the adults. Makes getting ready in the morning a whole lot faster.

When we drive we always take a folding luggage cart it really makes life a lot easier to move things from the car to the room or even wheel the cooler to the ice machine.

Some tips for packing your luggage:
1)Make a list of all thing which you want to carry.
2) Roll your clothe to prevent from wrinkling.
3) Put heavy luggage in bottom.
4) If possible do a less luggage.
5) Remember your ticket if you done advanced booking.

Something I am planning this trip that I read was to leave your clothes on hangers (if you can). This way you don't have to take them off of the hanger, fold them up to put in the suitcase, then take them out of the suitcase and hang them up again. I am going to put a pair of pants and shirt on each hanger and use one of the traveling suit bags.

A draw string top plastic bag (like the ones you get when you shop at pac sun) I always carry a small back-pack in the park with me and stuff the plastic bag in the bottom. For rides like KRR or SM, I pull out the bag, drop my back-pack in it, synch it up, and go!

This is a fabulous idea!

These are all wonderful ideas!! Thanks again!! Only 110 days to go til WDW POR!

Second trip to the World. Packing ideas like this made my first trip more magical so I"m happy to have some ideas to add to the conversation:
1. don't forget the power strip/surge protector (love the compact Belkin travel model that includes USB ports
2. staying at Pop and understand doors are now metal. Plan on bringing some magnets (Disney of course) and night and morning checklists to keep me organized
3. HUGE fan of carbiner clips. even when I go into the Parks without a bag or purse, I have 1 or 2 attached to my water bottle or clothes
4. speaking of water bottles, Klean Kanteens with sport cap! and the $8 carrying strap is so helpful and comfortable although I've also crocheted water bottle cozies. Don't forget the powdered drink packets
5. new favorite find at WalMart: badge clip holders. Package of 12 was $1.50. Clip grippy part with a plastic tab that snaps shut. Brilliant! Tiny and so useful. Attach to belt loops, clothes, water bottle, etc. to hang onto hats not being worn and other stray belongings. Won't support a ton of weight but useful where carbiners won't work. I wear a lot of cotton bucket hats and they're a puzzle to stash when you take them off and don't have a large bag with you. PRoblem solved
6. Flying and too cheap to rent refrig. Plan on packing a folding cooler for breakfast foods and electric kettle.

and, as my Mom would say, don't forget to pack your sense of humor and fun!

-Clorox wipes in a baggie to sanitize the tub, toilet, and other surfaces
-Purell wipes for tables and Purell bottles to clean hands before eating
-I don't do laundry at WDW but I bring laundry detergent in a small, plastic travel bottle in case I have to wash an item in the sink (if something gets a stain)
-Order cases of water bottles, snacks, and breakfast items fromm Garden Grocer in advance
-Some sort of ID tags for my kids in case they get lost (we've used who's shoes IDs before)
-Extra batteries for cameras
-Laptop to play DVDs on the plane ride for the kids, or for bedtime
-Snacks for the plane
-Flashlight to check for bedbugs (a tip I just learned here in the last year)

Something I learned from these boards.... Moleskin

I always get a blister somewhere. Moleskin goes over the blister, protects it, and cushions wonderfully! Just be aware that it is very sticky, and leave residue behind. But it was a life-saver last time.

It can be found in the Footcare area.... and don't forget scissors to cut it!

I also take individually wrapped wet ones everywhere!.... cleans tables, hands, toilet seats, and anything else you need cleaned!

And if you are going during a hot month, find a spray bottle/fan. They are great, but expensive in the park. Helps make friends in lines too. lol.

I've also heard about packing cubes that you can get at Target. Anyone know where in Target I can find them?
Thanks
