Latest app update has an image file that seems to hint at a possible new Premier Pass tier for Lightning Lane.

In the accompanying data the following text was included:

Plan ahead of your trip by selecting one of the circled dates below. The dates picked may be based on park passes, Resort hotel reservations and other items.

What would this even mean? There is no more Premier Pass as far as I know, so does it mean they'll make a super lightning lane or something??

Yes, quite possible that they are planning on allowing pre-booking for an extra fee at DL.

Could also be a technical mistake and this asset was intended for another park.
If they do implement that at Disneyland, mightn't pre-booking be made available for DLR hotel guests? Isn't that the case at WDW? I haven't heard about an extra fee for that.

Thanks for sharing. Interesting to see what happens. I don't really know why they'd change the system at DLR as it works pretty well the way it is. Yes, I wish they'd allow us to book the same ride more than once like FP/MP. You can kind of get around this with MEP’S.

I'm not really sure what the benefit of pre-booking at DLR would be. It's quite easy to get the rides you want at times you want them. I guess for purposes of dining reservations and shows to have certainty in advance. I understand some rides like Guardians sell out faster. I don't personally like the idea of having to book Big Thunder Mountain or whatever ride a week in advance.

At WDW they need pre-booking because there's so few attractions in each park the LL sell out very quickly. WDW had pre-booking for about a decade during the FP+ era when DLR never did. That's basically what they've gone back to now.

It would be nice if it was an unlimited pass, similar to what MaxPass was. I'd be willing to pay a premium for that.
They could probably get $50+ a day out of me for that… honestly maybe more. MaxPass was huge for me since I didn’t mind pulling stuff for the “boring” attractions if the return window was already open or like 30 minutes away. I basically went from attraction to attraction with maybe 10 minute wait at the most.

If its a way to get something like Maxpass or for APs to be able to have Lightening Lanes on the passes great

If this is just making it where people grab times before going to the park....not a fan.
Unpopular take, but I really hope passholders never have an add-on option for LLMP. It would dramatically increase the number of people using the system, reduce the availability of return times, and diminish the quality of the experience for everyone (including passholders using the system).

If they are ever going to change the system, I hope something like going back to MP/FP is what they do or some entirely different variation like Universal does with fewer users on the system and anytime returns.

As someone who has been a pass holder but lives out of state, I agree with this completely.

I just hope this doesn't lead to having to reserve rides in advance to ensure you get what you want like at DW. We didn't have any trouble using the current LL system in July, so unless this included the option to ride multiple times, I don't see much value in this.

My two cents, FWIW (which probably isn't much!):

I think it's unlikely that the company adds pre-booked LLs and then calls it something different from WDW. There would have been no reason for them to change the name of the program to match WDW (but not change the functionality to match), only to then change the name again so that it doesn't match WDW (but then change functionality so that it does) - this would be very illogical to me.

Pre-Covid, from what I understand, WDW was making a killing on the "upgrade to Club Level and get 3 more Fast Passes for extra $$$ per day per person." It never came back after Covid, but, is indicative that they have experience already offering a plussed version of whatever the current line-skipping program is. This is key: this company always wants more ways to increase margin and take on additional revenue for something they essentially, already offer, just slightly altered.

That being the case, I think this could possibly be some form of "competition" to Universal Express Pass. Why?

1) Whether you like LLMP, or liked Genie+, or liked MaxPass, or liked FastPass, they all had (at least) one problem in common: varied levels of confusion, that with changes required more and more time on a screen, when you should be enjoying your park day. Express Pass kills off this problem.

2) Touching again on confusion - the average person finds the program (and past programs) confusing and hard to use. Express Pass, again, fixes that. You purchase it (either single use per ride or unlimited use), enter the park, and have at it: no return times, no planning, no refreshing the phone -- just use it.

3) While comparison is a fool's errand here, b/c people inevitably like one or the other better, and because the systems are inherently different, Express Pass unarguably requires less time on the phone (if any) and is simpler to communicate. This is something Disney badly needs for its line skipping program.

I don't think this replaces what is there at either DL or WDW. Whether we think they work or not, Disney isn't going to suddenly replace the LL program they JUST rolled out at WDW, nor the current one at DL where arguably it works quite well (certainly compared to WDW). I envision this being similar to Express Pass, but likely only available as an additional add on, or maybe even more unique, as something you can buy (like Club Level FP) if staying at XYZ resort.

So would I. I'd love it if it was a pass attached to your ticket and not another ride-booking/reserving service on the app.

I'll be bummed if you need to book your LL far in advance. There are just too many variables on any given Disneyland day for me to know when I'll want to go on a certain ride. Even when we've had advance DAS picks I usually end up not using them.

Prebooking has limits at WDW. After 1st selection is used everybody is open to move all 3 pre-selects to Tier 1. At that point the full potential is unlocked for all. The exception is AK as it doesn’t have tiers but it is also the least popular to buy mLL at that park.

My guesses
1) A LL pass for the Magic Key holders to purchase for the length of their pass
2) An complete ala carte option, pay for each attraction separately. Pay for the MPLL or as you go.
3) A use anytime as much as you want LL.
