I saw a girl named "acidtrip" once. Haven't seen her since. I don't know how that one got by! I wanted to be "tolkien" after my original name "tolkien7" was scrapped. I guess it falls into the "Holden Caulfield" family of rejects because it was nixed. I'm cool with DocHT, even though it is my real name...

I've never seen any rule that says you can't use the word "the" 3 times in a paragraph. It's kind of hard not to when you have a noun in there.

The word blinks red in the text entry box and I cannot press enter until I change it. Does anyone else have this? I feel I am the only one who does not get the ###.[/COLOR]

You have not been on VMK long enough to have got in the habit of or maybe even to know about forcing words. If a word is not in the dictionary it will flash red if you hit enter just once. However if the hit enter twice fast it will be forced through. Once forced, if the word is acceptable it will display and if not acceptable it will display as "###".

However what is an acceptable word has recently changed. Currently what is acceptable is a characters title that is in the same area / room as you or on your friend's list. So if you force these titles they will display. So the next question you might ask is: "So why do I see so many "###", since everybody should know who is in the room with them or who is on their friends list?" The most common reasons for this would be either spelling errors, sometimes you have to use the exact capitalization, and some names can just not be typed.

However a less common reason may be a habit that a lot of us picked up before the most recent change. At that time ANY character's name in VMK was acceptable. So the habit that was picked up was to force everything and hope it was a character's name. That way we could have a "slurpee" and "gorgonzola" at the Surf Spot or get "damp" by falling in the well in the forest. The reason forcing worked so well at that time was that there are a LOT of characters out there that were named just to get around the dictionary.

Note: Some of us used to spend a lot of times in our rooms forcing words just to see if someone had chosen them for a name.

I don't know that it actually written anywhere, but you can not use any word or punctuation more then twice. This applies to messages, chat, or descriptions. For chat you can get around it by using short or partial sentences, but it is much harder for messages or descriptions.

Thanks, I'll have to try that out. But I would rather see a word flash red and change it to something that somewhat makes the same sense, than to just have my quote come up with a bunch of ###. I see that all the time like, someone will say to me, "I got the ### when ### was ###." And I'm thinking, WTH? Then they have to re-type it "dancing around the dictionary". Seems like a lot of trouble. If we could still say anyone's name, I would make a lot of characters with names like "booted" or "love" or "amazing". Just random words I thought of that we cannot say. I just don't understand why we can't say "love". Love is a great thing, the best thing in the world, a beautiful thing. Yes, people could say "make love", however we cannot say "make" (I don't think anyway...I know I tried to say "making" once and it flashed red). We can't even say "haha" which I greatly prefer over the ridiculous "LOL". Haha? How can that be bad? Laughter is the best medicine. Okay it's almost 4 a/m so maybe I should stop. LOL. See because of the darn dictionary, VMK has forced me to use a "word" I hate, even when I'm not on VMK. LOL.

man, how does all this stuff get by and i wanted the name puckstopper and they didnt allow it. I then tried puckblocker, and then even just puck. I know is sounds close to a bad word, but so does duck or tons of other words. This isnt fair, I wish I could change the name. Oh well.
