Unofficial Guide touring plans

We go to Disney at least once a year, but haven't been to Universal in probably 12 yrs. We're going down May 2-9 and staying at Disney, but thought about hitting Universal Studios this time as well. I read the section on Universal in the Unofficial Guide to WDW, and they stress the need to see the Mummy first thing and then MIB. But then when I looked at their touring plans they actually don't have you do that - they have Simpson's, ET, then Mummy and MIB. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I wanted to follow a touring plan since virtually nothing that was there last time I went remains, and want to be sure to see as much as possible in one day.

Also, while it's really irritating to have to pay for the Universal Express Plus (we can't stay on site b/c we did the buy 4 nights get 3 free at Disney), we are willing to buy it when we get there if needed. Should that affect our touring order?

Where is Kelly when we need him????:confused3
He has got the other side of Orlando that can and will help you!!!

I wouldn't call myself an expert, but I am an AP holder and can give a little insight. Most people go straight when they enter the gates toward Jimmy Neutron, Shrek, and the Mummy. If you turn right, you will go towards the Simpsons and MIB. My advice is to go to the Simpson's first because that usually backs up the most. What you do next would be determined by how important it is to stay together on rides. If you don't mind being split up, I would leave MIB for whenever you finish everything else because the single rider line is always your best bet. That would send you to the Mummy next. If you want to ride together, then hit MIB followed by the Mummy. Just my opinion. Hope this helps.

Thanks, I had the same question. Let me take it one further, though. How do you think Rip Ride & Rocket will affect the touring plans? Go there first, then Simpsons? Or vice versa?

Whenever I can talk others into it, I usually use the single riders line for Mummy and MIB. It is sooooo much quicker and you can wait at the end of the ride to share ride reactions. That way I can save those rides for a bit later. Otherwise, I go Simpsons, Mummy, MIB (multiple times) then ET. I tend to save Shrek and the like for later, since they soak up more precious early day/lower crowd ride time.

The new coaster will definitely be the one you want to ride first once it is open.

I would get the map ahead of time and mark the "must do" items and then follow the route that leads to from one ride to the next on your list. Studios, for rides is pretty much a big circle except for the branch off that leads you to ET, Fivel's playland, and the Curious George area. If it has been 12 years then I would just walk the circle. :cool2:
