Well, My phones dying, and I received a broken phone for parts but it seems the broken phone, is not broken.

Its a black Cingular razor with mp3 player, and I need to get it unlocked to use on my carrier T-Mobile.

Does anyone know how to get this done, or can do it?

I have no clue about cell phones.

Thanks!

I have used ebay twice to unlock phones. Very easy. You give them the code on the inside of the phone. And a few minutes later it works.

OK, excuse my ignorance too. Give WHO the code from the inside of the phone?

I have an older cellphone. Its not old to me, but Cingular says it is. Cingular sent me a letter telling me my phone will no longer work as of next year because they are doing away with that system. They are currently charging me an extra fee each month. I need to find a nice new CHEAP phone. I saw some on ebay, but I did not understand this whole unlock thing.

the providers are nice enough to contract with the cell phone makers to make the phones only work on their system, so I cant use this cingular phone on t-moble without it being unlocked from there system.

Log into your Cingular account online and when you go to your Account Information, go about halfway down the page and under "Phone/Device", click on Upgrade Phone. It means you are eligible for an upgrade on your phone. I did that and selected one of the free phones that were being offered. Of course, I did have to sign a new 2 year agreement and pay an $18 activation fee, but most likely, you may have to pay activation anyway because the type of phone you have doesn't have a SIM card, but with the new Cingular lines, it has to. I would try to go through Cingular first, it was very easy.

Thank you. I've been putting off doing anything because I didn't know what to do. Sounds like I'll be losing my nice super cheap small plan then. Its all I really needed. Plans today are larger than I will ever use. I think its their way of making money off people. :sad2:

Unfortunately, all the old analog lines are going away, so you'd be stuck once they do! I just FINALLY got a new phone a couple of months ago and the plan I ended up getting was only a couple of dollars more than what I was paying because of the stupid $5 fee they charged for the old type lines (PMID? I can't remember what they are called).

They do have a really cheap plan that is offered, but you don't get the unlimited nights/weekends. Take a look at it.
