Unlock in process! How to unlock iphone 5? Please!

Original owner had to call in *to AT&T* what a hassle, I have the eight digit confirmation code and the current status is pending.

I unlocked my 4S so I should be able to handle this.
Looking for simple, clear and free instructions
Remind me - do I already need the sim, have decided on the service provided I'm using? Likely straight talk, net10 or something similar.

Adding - not cool! While not impossible it is much more complicated/costly. I'd appreciate any insight.

The rules have changed recently as I was in the same situation in December. I believe only the original owner can unlock the phone and no one else. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

There was some kind of lawsuit and the cell companies won, so it's a lot harder to get a phone unlocked now, if I remember right.

I've always used the guide at http://www.iclarified.com/unlock/index.php, but it looks like there's nothing available for the 5.

Only the carrier can unlock it, and they have a laundry list of requirements. It took 3 months of daily phone calls, tweets, and online chats to get my 4S unlocked even AFTER I had met all my contractual obligations to the carrier.

I had my 4s with AT&T unlocked with no problems. We are out of contract though. It took less than a week. Used in Europe with no issues and now back with AT&T everything is still fine.
