Hi
First timer here... do I need to book the photo unlimited package each day?
Or the $200 is for the entire cruise?

In my trip it seems to be sold out the first and second day... so I booked for the third day.. but I'm confused by the wording

Also, why would this be sold out?

Thanks

It is for the entire trip. Disney just took it over from their 3rd party vendor a few years ago. Agreed that it was not the most logical way for them to insert it into their system. But it doesn't matter what day you book it for, it is for the entire cruise. (And even if it "sells out" one day, it never REALLY sells out; it is just another software issue in the reservation system.)

I've seen folks say it's not worth it since you can't stand next to the characters. I'll say for us last December we went ahead and got the package and were happy as they use the same "magic" as in the parks for some of the photos to super-impose characters. You had to look for it on the navigator - most of ours came in a photo shoot on the pool deck.

Newbie here, not sailing until next summer, can you explain how the photo package works? We're sailing on the wish next summer, thank you!!!

The unlimited photo package is priced by the length of cruise, as follows (at least as at the time I cruised in March 2022)
9-14 night cruise full package is $339.95
6-8 night cruise $295.95
5 night cruise $211.95
2-4 night cruise $194.95

I think the pricing is higher if you buy on board; these are the advance prices.

The photo package is per stateroom/family, i.e. not intended for multiple staterooms or an extended family to share.

When there are photo opportunities you will give your stateroom # to the photographer and then the pics they take will be sent to your photo account. There are kiosks on board where you can check your photos. You will also see on the kiosk a link where you can download all the pics - on board, but there is also a link for when you're at home to download the pics.

Also, every night there are multiple photo spots set up in the atrium. For formal, semi-formal, and pirate night they come around and take pictures in the Main Dining Rooms. As previously stated there will be some times when they are up near the sports deck or other location and doing "magic shots" where a Disney character will be inserted into your picture. (Such as holding your hand out and Tinkerbell sitting in your hand, or on our last cruise we had our hands out in front of us and they put the Dr. Strange magic shields over our hands.) We got some extra magic shots just by going up to some of the photographers who we had been friendly with during the cruise and asking if they had any other magic shots that they could do. Also, the photographers will set up for pictures on Castaway Cay. Plenty of opportunities; my wife is somewhat picture obsessed so we end up usually with over 100 different pictures.

We are a family in multiple staterooms. Can we just buy one package and say one stateroom every time we take photos?

It sort of depends on the situation, I think.

As we are a family of 5 (DH, me, and 3 kids) we do sail in two staterooms, and will buy one photo package and just give one room number so that the pictures all accumulate on that one package. But that is allowed, as we are one nuclear family.

An extended family sharing a photo package is not technically allowed. I am not sure when they would catch on, though, but I can tell you that on our cruise the photographers knew our room number by day 3 or so, lol.

This option may still exist: a second stateroom may be able to buy a second photo package at 50% off, on board.

Do you have to buy the unlimited package for that?

When we were on the Magic on 8/10, there were scheduled activities on the Navigator app that came up to do the "Magic shots" they call them.

You did not need to buy the unlimited package or any package to do the magic shots but they are included in the package if you have it.

Tip: A friend of ours was travelling with 3 different staterooms. They bought the package for 1 stateroom and always used the cards for just that stateroom/told them that stateroom number instead of their own. (IE: Photo Package attached to 7050, everyone just always told the photographer "7050" and they attached the groups photos to that room even though the others were in other SR)
