Sunday, Universal began public rehearsals for the Cinematic Spectacular. Here's an article from my new Disney Blog (still under construction) and a full video courtesy of Attractions Magazine.

So what does everyone think? Comment here or on the link. Please bump, so everyone can see the video.

UPDATE: I have posted a full review through the following link. Comment about what you think of Universal's Cinematic Spectacular.

Thanks for posting....

Not sure that's going to be the hit they're hoping for. I would watch it if I happened to be in the area, and I could get a good view. I wouldn't stake out a seat an hour in advance for that. The movie clips will be interesting to a movie buff, but most true movie buffs would want better resolution than clips projected on water. It mostly seemed like a big "I can project movies on water too" imitation of Fantasmic without the creative parts.

Did I understand that the show will be shown nightly until the grand opening ? We will be there from april 28 until may 5th. If we could see it one time I would be so thrilled.

There is no such announcement of a schedule yet for guests to be able to see the show again. The official opening date is set on May 8, 2012. However, if you wanted to chance upon the rehearsal once again then watch-out for alerts--- they will put a signage within the theme parks alerting guests about a rehearsal is going on.

As to Universal copying Disney for this show...Disney was not the first place to have dancing, coloured fountains or pictures projected on water. The technology used in this show is different than what Disney uses. This show uses a waterfall screens, Disney uses water jets.

:thumbsup2

It's only being shown on "select" nights untill May 8th.

Here's the best video of it I've seen so far.

It looks fantastic, Thanks damo I can`t wait to see it in July :thumbsup2

I thought the frame with falling water to create a screen was a bit clumsy and not constructed / disguised very well. The spray/jets coming up from the water to generate a screen was far better and as the spray dissipated it produced soft edges that blurred into the sky was a far better way to go.

BTW I thought that Universal were not allowed to used fireworks, hence the water/light show, because the park is generally in / neighbouring a residential zoned area.

Universal has had fireworks before but nothing like the spectacular that Disney puts on.

I'm purposefully reserving judgement (and avoiding the videos) until I can see it in person. Usually videos do not do the night-time events justice.

First, I just wanted to say that I spoke to several Universal employees who said that although it is officially only happening on "select" nights, it will occur every night unless there is some sort of major technical difficulty.

I personally like it a lot better than Wishes. I don't know why, but it's just me. The one thing I don't like is that there are several times in the show where everything goes dark causing people to think it may be over. Other than that, it was great. The water affects are really neat and I find it hilarious that Universal has designated "Splash Zones" along the lagoon so guests can get wet.

Most likely, I will post a review sometime tomorrow or Friday, but it's going to be a busy rest of the week with Disney's What New, What's Next event and the corresponding announcements. Stay tuned, but I also have some logistical issues with the blog I'm trying to fix.
