We'll be leaving for Disneyland in 16 days!! We have an extra day and I just started checking out Universal Studios. It's just my husband and myself going and we've been to the one in FL but it was about 6 years ago. Would you guys recommend spending a day at Universal while we're there? We're already booked for 5 days at Disney. I had a day open in case we got tickets to a taping but wasn't able to get tickets. Thanks!

If you are big into movies, its pretty cool. I have never been to the one in FL, but from my understanding they are COMPLETELY different. The one in FL is much bigger and has a lot more. However that is mainly because the one in CA actually does filming there and the one in FL doesn't. If you do go, I would suggest doing a studio tour.

Pretty much the only thing USH has over Orlando is the tram tour, which is admittedly pretty cool if you are a film buff. And maybe the Water World stunt show.

Where did you try to get tickets to a taping? Did you try all the ticketing companies? I'd suggest doing the Warner Bros tour above a day at a theme park. You could still check out City Walk at Universal without going in the park.

I really wanted to get into the Ellen show and applied for tickets the second they opened up but it's been almost two weeks and I haven't received a phone call so I'm guessing I didn't get tickets :confused3. Most of the shows are finishing up right before we arrive. I was able to get standby tickets for Jimmy Kimmel but I've never watched his show and not sure I want to go.

We're doing the Warner Brothers tour one day and a tour of LA another day. We could use this extra day as a pool day but I thought Universal might be neat since it has more guy stuff for my husband. Thanks for the suggestion!

YES, go to Universal. (but I don't know the Orlando one, so i don't know if the same things are also found in Orlando). The Simpsons ride is one of the best rides we have been on. We plan to go back just for that ride.
The Tram tour is neat, especially the King Kong 3D part.

or another option is to goto Knotts Berry farm.

Definately go... we love US. We have been to US Hollywood & Islands Of Adventure in FL & loved the both. The rides in FL & CA imo are completely different but we enjoyed them both. The Transformers ride reminds me of the harry potter/spiderman type of ride fyi :-)

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. If we end up going, right now we're leaning towards going, any suggestions on the best way to tour the park and beat the lines without the front of the line pass? Thanks!

^ Get to the park 1-hour prior to listed park opening. Since we are approaching the summer season, Universal will most likely open Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem and Transformers 30min prior to listed park opening, so do those two rides first.

After Transformers, ride Mummy and Jurassic Park before heading back to the Upper Lot for the Studio Tour. After the Studio Tour, do the shows (do not miss Water World) and House of Horrors.

Save The Simpsons Ride towards the end of the day as the line tends to be short towards park closing.

Also take advantage of Single Rider Lines:

Transformers
Revenge of The Mummy
Jurassic Park

Minion Mayhem- (Single Rider line in testing phase)

Since you have been to Universal Orlando, these are the attractions that are different or unique to Hollywood:

-Studio Tour
-Water World
-House of Horrors
-Special Effects Stage

-Revenge of The Mummy
-Jurassic Park

Thanks so much for the tips, especially about getting there an hour before it opens. If we go I'll definitely do what you suggest. :cool1:

I think I would recommend doing Simpsons early when lines are short since it doesn't have single rider. While it may be true that Simpsons is a shorter wait at the end of the day if you get to the park at rope drop you can complete most everything else by early afternoon. So you'll have hours of waiting around for the Simpsons line to go down in length.

Universal in Hollywood is much smaller than Florida.... I would do a lot of research as there is not a whole lot to do there, but what is there is pretty neat, and the studio tram is cool. Unlike florida, it is a working movie studio which is cool
