Posted this this morning, however my post has seemed to disappear, so it here goes again.

We are planning a quick road trip next week just to get away from reality for a few days, our first thought was a quick trip to DLR, however with just a small amount of time we decided to do something we would be okay with for only a few days. I "think" we have decided to take our kids to Universal Studios for a few days, however we have never been and have no idea what to expect. It will be myself, my dh, ds 9, and ds 7 months. I am totally aware that my youngest will not go on any rides or do much at all and I am ok with that. However I am worried if Universal is even worth making a road trip from Oregon?
Again this is a total budget last minute trip (got the park tickets with credit card points, discount hotel on priceline) so all we really need is gas and a bit of spending money.
IDK.....does anyone have any thoughts?

Universal Studios Hollywood is a one-day park. So, if you are planning to spend several days in L.A., you will have to choose from other places to visit, but there are too many to list in one answer. Would your family like to visit other theme parks or beaches or museums or Hollywood sites or see sports events ... ?

I've never been on vacation with my kids in CA yet either, but we are going to DL for 4 days and Legoland for 1 day. With the age of your son, have you looked in to Legoland? You can get coupons for buy one adult get one child free on mini Lego sets you can find at the Target check out lanes for just a few dollars. DL can be pretty expensive but there are lots of options in California. Knots Berry Farm is another but it has a lot of rides for adults and big kids so you may not be ready for that one yet.

Sorry I know nothing about Universal but good luck!

A few days at Universal?? You'll be really bored. It takes a day to see it, and that's assuming there are long lines.

"One day park" is generous, it's more like a half day park. There is plenty of better and more affordable stuff to do in Los Angeles. Have you been to Long Beach? I've heard great things about Aquarium of the Pacific, and I LOVE the surrounding area. There is an arcade, ferris wheel, and paddle boats, all of which are more fun than Universal :) Also, if you want a quick Disney fix there is always the Soda Fountain in Hollywood, right across from the Kodak Theater.

Well we decided to go, and vacationed to So. Cal last week. We visited Universal on July 7th and did end up spending the entire day. We have a 7 month old and a 9 year old, so we had to take our time and let the little ones do the small things like Curious George water area etc. It was fun and I am glad we went. Not really a 2 day park but fun nonetheless! We spent the rest of the week in Beverly Hills, Hollywood and Santa Monica beach at the boardwalk! Well worth the trip and nice to get out of Oregon for a while!
