Hey! This is the second thread where you post random thoughts and comments about Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, or anything else you want to talk about...even if it isn't Universal related! :)

And I say to you, download AOL instant messenger!! :smooth: need more people to add to my buddy list ;)

Anyway, post away :)

Since many people aren't on at this hour, I don't expect a reply anytime soon...

but I guess I'll start anyway...nothing better to do ( don't want to go to sleep...makes the morning get here to quickly...:( )

OK...a few random things:

1.) Have any of you stayed at the Fairfield near Universal? We are going to stay there one night...the night of September 5. Just wondering what anyone's thoughts are.

2.) I wonder if they're going to get rid of the 5:00PM showing of the Ghostbusters Show when the park closes at 5:30PM...meaning only 3 shows...:(

3.) dangit...I forgot

4.) Should I continue with creating an unofficial Universal Studios website? How can I earn money that would cover the costs of the site (NOT for profit, but for keeping the site up...domain name, hosting, etc)? Should I sell neon yellow stuff or something for the DIS members? ;)

5.) Why don't people post more often on here (guess I'm used to a different board :p )

Add anything! Just post, dangnabit!! :teeth:

Sorry, nothing to do around here, as I've whined to Barry Hom about. :)

Can't answer most your questions, except yes please make an unofficial site. But include information on the parks, shows, resorts and City Walk. The more information the better.

OK :) I'll spend my next few trips jotting down information to add. As long as I have one person who'd visit, I'll do it :p

Hey! I stayed at the Fairfield Inn on Jamaican Court (just off I-Drive behind the Kobe Japanese Steakhouse) earlier this month for one night. I know there is another Fairfield near Universal so this might not be the one you are asking about, although it was a very short drive to the Royal Pacific where we stayed for the rest of our trip.

I don't know why not many people post here. I have been reading here daily since discovering this site. Please make an unofficial website. I will be a faithful follower!:D

Yes Flyfly! I would love to see it and I bet it will be great. :) If you need any pictures or anything I can help you with let me know!

Two of us will visit it!!! LOL.... Me and Jessica!!!! :D

I can tell you I won't need pictures of ONE thing..........

;)

Thanks for the offer!! :)

I'll keep you all updated on the progress. I still need to get pictures of most of the rides (pages would be kind of boring with only text).

Tell me, honestly, frames or no frames? I've been making one with frames, but I understand some of the older browsers do not support frames.

LOL Spidey...actually 3! Thanks themepark too!! :) You 3 will have to give me input to help me make it better. :) IE - don't like the frames, or needs more pictures, not enough information, etc.

But so far, I have the basic site completed but need to make the pages more attractive (like I said, with pictures, etc). I'm hoping to put the site up relatively soon. But with another Universal trip coming up, may be postponed a little bit longer.

I knew better than to think you may need pictures of that "ONE" thing...you have the market cornered on that already!;)

LOL :)

Still have another roll to drop off for development, in fact!! Doing that tomorrow and having to wait until Friday to pick it up :(

I bet FF_E has like 100 photo albums, all of pictures of the Backstreet Ghostbusters.

And to think, FF_E loves a show based on a movie that was released before she was born! :)

But I DID finally see it :teeth: I love the movie now too! It's so corny, it's hysterical. I love movies from the 80s! Ghostbusters, Bill & Ted...

Frames...No Frames that is the question. Since you started and you are using frames continue on. Only the minority will not be able to view it. But also using frames is not conducive to search engines. Navigation is easy when using frames. I think most people that make sites as hobbies use frames. Usually the commercial sites are the ones that dont use frames.

I wasnt sure and was curious so I went looking at why one would or would not use frames. This explained it well.

Does the site need frames?
One of the more common reasons to use frames is "because it's cool", or "because I can." This should never be a consideration for a serious site - a personal or "for fun" site can of course do whatever it wants. The main advantage of frames is the ability to display multiple documents at once. So the question can be rephrased to "What kind of documents do I want to see displayed at once?" or "How would my readers benefit from seeing two documents at once?". If there is no good answer to this question, then the site does not need frames.

Good Luck Flyfly and have fun making it! I have often thought about doing the same...maybe someday.

erm...not quite Barry. Though I really enjoyed the movies and TV Shows. :)

Thanks Jessica. Maybe I'll try making one without frames too and then decide which is easier to navigate through, since that was the main reason for the frames in the first place: navigation. I can always put what I have up for now, and then give it a complete makeover later on. We'll see :)

1) No. I don't have any thoughts on this.

2) Probably.

3) I have forgotten too.

4) You should make a Universal site, but if you want anybody to visit it you gotta make it unique. Don't make a little site with all the same information the big sites have. Who needs that? Figure out your own special take on Universal, and do that.

Make a fan site for the Extreme Ghostbusters Show, since that's what you know best. Post some or all of your pics. Make bios for all the characters and the individual actors, if you can get information on them. Maybe you can arrange to get interviews with some of them. Get details on how the show came about, who conceived it, who wrote it, who directed it, who choreographed it, ect. Gather information on all the other Ghostbusters incarnations in the parks history, like the other street show and the original attraction. Maybe include a section about the movies.

Or make a site about all the live shows in Universal. Ghostbusters, Horror Make-up, Wild Wild Wild West, Street Breaks, Sinbad, ect. Research some of the long gone shows. Include the street character performers if you want.

Or make one devoted to photography in Universal. Post your and other people's artistic, pretty, interesting or funny pictures taken at Universal.

Or if you’re heart's set on creating a general Universal guide, put a teen's perspective on it.

Whatever you do, just make sure it's interesting and unique and something you like.

5) I know what you mean, but I can actually do without tons of new posts everyday. I've had to quit other message boards because I just couldn't devote the time it took to keep up with them. But I do understand what your saying. Sometimes I wish there were more interesting, fun posts. This place is a great resource for Universal vacations, but I miss back when IOA was about to open, and this place was more like a fan site.

That's why I plan on starting a series of "fan-style" posts, where people can chat and reminisce about Universal. Maybe I can inspire others to do that same. :)

Also, regarding frames: I think frames were a fad in web design. Most sites now don't use them, and when they are used they serve a specific purpose. They really is no need for them in a regular site, and it actually makes building the site harder (and it also makes the page look dated and tacky).

thanks for all your input DocBosch! I really appreciate it!! :)

My website was a teen's perspective guide, but was going to have "extras" throughout...I really like some of your ideas (especially the interview with the Ghostbusters...muah :p Any idea how I can get one?).

And thanks for being honest about the frames. I'll be working on getting rid of them today. As I had said, I only had them to help with navigation. :)

Well, off to school now... I'll be back in about...8 hours.

Hey!!!

Website Update: Well, we will be officially purchsing the WebEditor on Sunday, September 7. Yes, we will be buying the webeditor then. I am using a trial now, but I can save the files and therefore, I may be able to have my website completely done by then. :)

I have given my website a makeover already (thanks to DocBosch who said "no" to frames). I think it already looks better than it did. BUT, it's not the most impressive looking website. I focus more on the graphics and collages right now. Later on, I may make it more attractive, but what I have now works, and I'd rather put it up (it doesn't look BAD or anything...).

Of course, I'll have some people preview my website and send me their comments before I go advertising it.

Anyone want the job of proof reading, viewing, etc? To let me know what to change and what to keep? I hope that I can sign up for webhosting on September 7 as well...but I may have to wait until the following Friday. And then my domain name will not be "connected" to the site for about 2 or 3 days.

My website is an information website that focuses on Islands of Adventure, Universal Studios, and the Royal Pacific Resort.

HOWEVER, I hope to create a Ghostbusters Show Fan site as well. I may just link it to my current site if I can't get another domain name right away.

Anyone have any idea how I should get ahold of the guys to ask for an interview? I know where they go for parking, after all the shows are over. I mean, I could go up to them and ask them if at another date I could interview them (oh wait...no I couldn't!)...or would I contact someone at Universal Studios themepark? hmmmmmm....brainstorming :)

ANYWAY, where is everyone tonight? Not as many posts today...but at least it gave me time to work on the site...but still...

Still not sure if I'm going to Universal on Sunday. My mom said "no" but then I talk her into it and she doesn't give a definite answer. Aargh! Drives me crazy. :) She wants to go back, she admitted it. May turn out to be another last minute thing. Will definitely be at Universal September 5 and 6...anyone want to meet up for something? E-mail me, IM me on AIM, PM me, or post here! lol so many options now!!! ;)

Well, I guess you can tell I'm out of it because I'm rambling on (I've been doing a lot of that today). So if I make no sense, forgive me. I get up at 6AM every darn morning for school, learning stuff I'll never use (who needs to learn care and prevention of athletic injuries if I want to become either a film director or photographer??? sheesh!).

Ughhh....anywho, I'll still be up for a bit, so feel free to post! And I always check before I head off for school...need SOMETHING uplifting to get me through the day.

Oh crud...two tests tomorrow. *groan*

Alright, better shut up now :) I'll be back...when someone posts OR if I have another website update!!!!

:bounce:

My goodness, FlyFly, don't ever let a teacher hear you say you're wasting your time learning something you'll never use again. That's just wrong! Not many people know this, but I was actually an English major undergrad (both writing and lit) and had a minor in Sec Ed. I'm actually certified to teach English in 7-12th grade in NJ and CT. Of course, when I did my student teaching, many of my kids would ask, "When am I ever going to regret not reading Animal Farm or The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman or Huck Finn or not knowing the 3 main characters of Shakepeare's sonnets?" My favorite: "Who cares how old Hamlet is anyway?"
Hmmpphh!!

Whether you're learning classics or common sense or life skills, ALL learning is important. It proves that you can be given any task and any assignment, give it some skillfull thought, and produce a final product -- be it a project or a test score. Being versatile and flexible is important in this day and age. Although I thought I was going to be an English teacher, I got sidetracked, and am now in a highly technical field and wound up earning a technical M.S. (which, BTW, I suckered my company into paying!). You never know where life will lead you, and although I hope you do end up being a film director, someday you may be glad you learned how to prevent athletic injuries -- imagine coming to the rescue of one of your stunt doubles!

Enough babbling and lecturing from this former teacher! Perhaps after all these years of not teaching, I'm still a bit defensive. But, if you ever need to write a paper on how old Hamlet is, I'm your girl!
