so we just went to Universal studios Hollywood, and besides the Simpsons ride(which was Awesome by the way) the whole park seems to be stuck in 1994, i mean their "best":confused3 show is Waterworld, they have a Terminator 2 show that leads you out to a store that sells hasta la vista baby Shirts:confused3 LOL, they have the Jurassic park ride:confused3, and the Mummy, What the Heck??? it seems like the whole park is stuck in the mid 90's anybody else get that feeling from visiting???

Shrek isn't 90's

Waterworld hasn't changed because it remains as one of the most popular shows ever. Almost always a packed house. Far better than the lame Miami Vice show it replaced years ago.

I haven't seen the updated special effects show but hear it has been completely redone.

Mummy is a great ride that replaced the 80's based ET. I don't think major rides should be torn down every 10 years!

I totally agree - don't forget the Blues Brothers show in there too ( 80s for that, right)? And they just recently closed Backdraft!

But the Simpsons is almost worth the price of admission ( guess there's a reason you can get 5 days for $55 vs 4 days of DL for $199 at Costco)

Based on the fabulous reviews of the new Harry Potter area & ride at USO though they know how to create rides. Just not in So Cal for some reason.

i dont think major rides should be torn down either but the shows should be updated at least by the decade.

Like Honey I Shrunk the Audience, Star Tours, Muppets and a few others that are dated? USH needs expansion, new rides etc. more than anything else. But the Tram tour is FAR superior at USH than USO and has been updated with new attractions often.

Not so sure about the reviews on Harry Potter. News media seems to likes it but reading forums from people who have gone I get somewhat of a different image. Possibly it's just the long lines that get people upset. Heard of 4-5 hour waits. Reminds me of when Indiana Jones opened up.

I have to agree with you.

When DH and I went to Universal last year we were extremely underwhelmed. We enjoyed CityWalk more than the park. It is so outdated I almost felt embarrased for them... now I'm not saying they should take out every single "old" ride and replace it with a new one but, yah the entire park screams 1994.

For me though it wasn't just the rides, I found the studio tour to be kind of lame too, but that's just me.

Needless to say we won't ever go back. But we will try USO in a few years.

Oh, they took out Backdraft? The last time I was there was 1997, I think, so I guess things seemed a bit more up to date back then. I was sad that they decided to get rid of the Back to the Future ride since i love those movies.

Do they still have the show where they tell you about how they make sound effects and other behind the scenes things? I remember them telling about some of the alfred hitcock films and I think they had people reinact a scene from Vertigo. They also had people do sound effects from Harry and the Hendersons :rotfl2:. I liked that little "backstage" show but Harry and the Hendersons needed to go 20 years ago.
