Universal Resort Discounts?

We are planning a trip down to Florida this Summer - most likely August. We have gone to WDW last 3 years and I think DS is old enough this year to enjoy Universal. We might combine it with a short WDW trip, or Sea World - not sure yet. My question is... does Universal release summer discounts like Disney does? Either room, package, free dining - whatever...? If yes, when do they normally come out? Having been completely immersed in Disney I haven't been paying attention to Universal. I was there over 15 years ago, so I'm sure a lot has changed.

I am waiting for the August rates to come out as well (for annual pass holders). I'm thinking it will be around the 2nd week of April but nothing has been announced yet. It might be worth your while to buy one AP for the hotel discount if you plan to go to Universal for a few days.

since your son is 6, i would plan a sea world and universal trip into one vacation.

there are things a 6 yo would really enjoy in the parks but don't know how long of a stay you are planning.
if he is average height, then that would increase some of the rides he can do.

probably ruling out the coasters except for the one in fieval play section.
shows would be entertaining that are in the park and at potter.

if you stay on site at UO, they provide a free daily shuttle to Sea World, Aquatica and Wet and Wild.
the shuttle is fine for the mornings but timely for the return ride back to the hotels.

packages aren't the cheapest way to go when staying at the darkside.
everytime you make a change to it, there is a $50 fee involved.
and cancellation policy is different.

book room only and only pay a one nights deposit down.
cancel without penalty 5 days out and you are refunded your money.
pay the remainder of the stay when you checkout of the hotel.

tickets can be purchased a tad cheaper from the outside ticket vendors.
UT, Maple Leaf are valid, reliable and convenient.

go to www.universalorlando.com to get an idea and description of what rides, shows, eateries you will find in both parks.

Thank you and a stupid question.. what's an AP?

Lots D of great info thanks! My DS is very tall for his age, just about 50 inches I would say. He has done Rock'n'Roller coaster at DHS, Mount Everest, Space Mountain. I don't think he would go on Manta and similar coasters though, or he might but I don't want him too ;) He loves everything Disney but also SpongeBob Squarepants, Spiderman, Despicable Me, Transformers - which is why I think he would enjoy Universal too. I don't know what the "darkside" that you mention is either... ?? Can you tell I haven't been to Universal in forever? ;)

disney is the motherland as that is where eveything started.
universal is the darkside as it's the unknown to many.
