If they are "afraid" of anything, I think it is the variable ride experience, which is likely to be the future of simulator/dark rides. And not variable as in "select a music soundtrack we licensed for cheap".
I wouldn't be surprised if they aren't already thinking how they might be able to make the projection sequences in HPATFJ variable - until they realize how much it would cost to bring the no-longer-kids back to film again.
I think this shows that as of now Universal is maintaining their aggressive park posture. Which is good for all park guests. I'm sure Disney is keeping their eyes on these developments and results very closely.

they have been off and on for about a decade. the operation and sale of universal, anheuser busch entertainment, etc over recent history is a much more complicated issue in the amusement industry.
potterland is doing very well by all accounts...but it doesn't change the overall outlook for the complex that much.
They may be trying to use its momentum as leverage to "sell high" at the current state.
While that would be much more aggressive, but would likely be too aggressive IMO. They need to hold of on Potter 2 until the initial Potter buzz is wearing off, when you no longer have a increase in attendance and you want those Potter fans to come back.
Right now, Universal should look at trying to use some Potter revenues to enhance the rest of the park(s) and start getting people to come out for more than just WWoHP.
I'm really hesitant to believe such statements...only because i don't think park heads or corporate financial personnel tend to leak such information so easily...and if they volunteer it, it could be due to somekind of ulterior motive...plus with all the shady accounting that companies do these days...i believe little.
Disney Parks generated 3.4 BILLION in revenue from merchandise sales in its US parks in 2010...3.1 BILLION from everything else...that was in the annual report and i do believe that one.
