universal ok for ASD kiddos?

I know there's a specific thread about the pass issue, but we are just now considering a detour to Universal on our next trip. Does anyone have any tips, advice, warnings, etc? I don't know Universal at all, but DH and I love Harry Potter, so we're hoping to have 2 partial days; one afternoon, stay on site for the express pass availability then the am before moving to Disney.
I'd love any and all info y'all have to give me.

Nicole, I have never been so I can't say but I was reading about an express GAP at Universal that may be the same as the GAC. I hope you have a great time.

When exactly is the Harry Potter area going to open anyways? Last I heard it was late 2010, but I'm not sure of the month.
