I have seen OPs mention Universal/IOA gift cards. I would love to buy my children one before our trip. Where can I buy them? Are they only available at Universal?

I would skip the gift cards and get them an AMEX or VISA prepaid card instead. The Universal gift cards must be exchanged at Guest Services for Universal bucks so they are aren't the best cards out there.

We can buy them at our Kroger store here in NC. They are in $50 increments here.

Metro West-Is it a pain to exchange the gift cards for Universal bucks? Are the lines long at Guest Services?

Also, what do the Universal bucks look like? Are they cute like Disney bucks? Thanks!

If you're coming down during a busy period, you could spend quite a bit of time at GS trying to exchange the cards. It all depends on how people have problems that day...Phamton can tell you better than me since she has first hand experience.

I haven't seen the UBs in a while but I remember them being like Disney dollars but it's not worth standing in a longish line to exchange when you don't have to...you know?
